CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

Help needed:
Edinburgh International Science Festival at ECCI – WE NEED YOU!
CALL OUT 1: VOLUNTEERS to assist with ELECTRIC BIKE USER EXPERIENCE EXPERIMENT
Test ride an electric bike and find out about user experience and potential for uptake of electric bicycles!
ECCI & the Edinburgh Living Lab are looking for volunteers to help conduct an experiment on user experience of electric bikes at the Bike v Cars Future Vehicle Showcase as part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival. During the showcase, visitors will be able to test-ride electric bikes, and contributing to a short survey about their experience after the ride. We’re looking for volunteers to administer the survey and talk to visitors about their experience. During the day Robert Llewellyn – star of Fully Charged, Carpool, Scrapheap Challenge and Red Dwarf – will also be making a special stop at ECCI to recharge batteries and share stories of his electric automotive and two-wheeled adventures.
The Showcase will take place from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. on 9 April.
We are looking for two volunteers for each of the following time slots:
11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
2 - 5 p.m.

The film will be followed by a panel debate with creative thinkers from the world of politics, journalism, science, art and technology. More info: http://www.bikes-vs-cars.com

I sent an email to enquire about these events and seem to have ended up volunteering. Quite fancied seeing the film and the Robert Llewellyn talk in any case so that's good.
@jdanielp & others - any chance of getting some POP flyers out at the same time? http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=15715&page=3#post-215872
@sallyhinch I have a wad that I took for Heriot-Watt and potentially morning leafleting on the canal towpath. I'll take those along and arrange to collect more if necessary.
Leaflets deployed at the door. My bike has been set up on a rolling generator stand and glo-sticks taped to its rear wheel.
There are six bikes in total and about 15-20 names on a list of volunteer cyclists including myself and Robert Llewellyn who I fear I may have blanked on the way in while I was admiring his parked Tesla MS.
The only problem was that we overpowered the system fairly early on which led to a brief halt to the screening and a small amount of smoke. Oh, and just before the end of the screening one of the techies walked into the back of my bike and bent my rear mudguard beck on itself. Grrr...
People seemed to be taking more PoP leaflets today than yesterday despite it being a little less bike-oriented. I'm glad that I got involved since the film and talk were interesting and I met lots of nice people including Robert Llewellyn (who didn't cycle yesterday in the end) and Kim.
I came along to have a look and the first impression was that the whole courtyard was full of cars (and access to the bike racks blocked almost completely).
But when I counted, it was 17 cars and 18 bicycles, the bicycles where just much less visually dominant. Later, more bicycles arrived, but there wouldn't have been space for a single more car. Perhaps that tells us something about urban transport.
I didn't really understand why they brought the cars. Sure they are all electric and clever, but they just look like cars. I found the electric bikes more interesting, as you could actually try them.
@Stephan were you talked into filling out a survey on an iPad after any of your bike tests? That would have been me in the blue t-shirt unless you arrived after half two.
@jdanielp Sorry, no, I missed that, but I didn't stay very long as I was on the way to somewhere else.
"I didn't really understand why they brought the cars"
Because it was a Bikes v. Cars event?
"I found the electric bikes more interesting, as you could actually try them"
Whereas I'm sure a lot there probably found the cars more interesting as you could sit in them and they have no interest in bikes.
"But when I counted, it was 17 cars and 18 bicycles, the bicycles where just much less visually dominant"
In which case having the cars there made a very, very good point (that being the oft-mentioned truth that electric cars are all well and good, but they'll still dominate a city landscape whether petrol powered or electric). Though I often wonder if you have to be wired into the thinking of a cyclist or "cities are for people" person for that to sink in, sadly.
@Wilmington's Cow Sorry I didn't mean it so dismissive. To be honest, I wasn't totally aware what the event was about, as I just had made a mental note of "event at the ECCI mentioned on the cycling forum so if I'm nearby I go and have a look".
Of course you're right that the title of the thread is a bit of a clue, but that info wasn't present in my poor brain when I arrived.
Yesterday was the Future Vehicle Showcase, which the organisers seemed to think meant that everything had to be electric... The film on Friday evening was Bikes vs Cars.
Ah. In which case my mistake. Apologies!
