    The money will create more cycle-only paths, increase traffic calming and develop more safe routes for cyclists.

    Glasgow City Council’s executive committee has pledged the funds as part of a new cycling strategy - which aims to almost double the number of cyclists in the city to 15,000 a day by 2025.

    Good news. However:

    'Bailie Elaine McDougall, the council’s executive member for transport, environment and sustainability, said: “This new strategy outlines our plans to transform Glasgow into the most cycle-friendly city in Scotland.

    “To achieve this will require substantial investment and it is our intention to invest £6 million over the next three years if we can get the Scottish Government and other stakeholders to do the same.” ;

    Or around £2 million per annum, which is about what Edinburgh spends now, maybe a bit less in fact. I presume Glasgow's transport budget is larger, so I wonder what percentage of the overall budget £2 million represents?

    How will spending less (in absolute and/or relative terms) than a slightly smaller city make Glasgow the "most cycle-friendly in Scotland"?

    Perhaps they will spend it on new segregated infrastructure along arterial routes rather than upgrading existing routes and adding a lot of signage.

    Or perhaps they will simply twiddle it away on focus meetings designed to come up with new ways of measuring cycle-friendliness.

    Only time will tell.

    It should be good news for graphic designers though.
    They'll need a logo, some PR and marketing. Study trip too.

    But then... the 'more money means better outcomes' is not always true and they could surprise us all with the right bike lanes in the right place at a lower price than over here.
    Some bits here were quite expensive and not that good.

    Quite right, maybe Glasgow will do it "miles better"? Or maybe not. Either way, it's got to be more sensible than investing multiple tens of millions in urban motorways to create "regeneration"......oh wait.

    Good to see at least some money invested in cycling. Oh, but only IF "we can get the Scottish Government and other stakeholders to do the same." So they'll not spend the money if they can't? OTOH IF they "double their money" that would be pretty darn good for cycling in the city, unless "they will simply twiddle it away on focus meetings designed to come up with new ways of measuring cycle-friendliness."
