Just thought I'd flag the excellent bike club activities available for kids over the break:

Ross and Trish are offering cycle rides every weekday of the Easter Holidays. You do need to book, but places are still available - email <ross.crook@btinternet.com> for details of how to sign up.

They offer three different options, depending on the children's age/interests.

    P1&P2+ Mini-adventure ride:

1hr adventure ride round meadows and surrounds. 10am till 11am. Cost £8. For the P1 & P2s (and older) that are normally in the playground bike club, but have displayed good bike skills & good listening skills.

    P4+ Road Safety:

1.5 hr session on quiet roads (Hatton Place/ Lauder Road). 11.15am - 12.45pm. Cost £11. These sessions will be based on Bikeability, which is normally aimed at P6 children. These sessions will also be suitable for younger children that you are satisfied can judge traffic speed and distance and cross quiet roads by themselves. It is good to have the skills in place for when you feel they are mature enough to use them.

    P3+ Adventure Ride:

3hr adventure rides for P3 and above confident riders with good listening skills. 1pm till 4pm. Cost £15. 3 hrs will allow us to really explore further afield to places like Portobello Promenade, Cramond etc on quiet off road routes.

And that is why I despair of ever getting one of mine out on the road independently; he has apparent deafness to any instruction, particularly if barked with urgency.
