this is what I am hearing, probably verifiable on their website and indeed you do not even need to go to aldi now to get the bike kit bargains, you can order on line and avoid the scrum. Personally I am still of the mindset of checking out the aldi stuff first hand prior to purchase. - I tried their merino for a tenner base layer on in the shop (admittedly over a t shirt) and it was not too itchy so I bought it. I would buy another any day. they do good socks too.

looks like garden stuff this thursday on their website? not easy to navigate their site though

Aldi/Lidl clothes can be a little eccentric (e.g. very long bodies) so worth trying first

Worth checking out their motorcycle gear. I find the motorcycle base layers and socks to be just the ticket if cycling in very cold conditions (mine were from LiDL but Aldi probably even better). Not much use at the moment, admittedly, but if we get a severe winter...

Also that motorcycle waterproof jacket looks handy for the price.

  5. "Aldi/Lidl clothes can be a little eccentric" - but very good for cycling in Scottish weather.

Seems LiDL have some bike stuff in. Backpacks and panniers look handy at that price. Maybe cover the Crivit logo with a big sticker though...

Chain cleaning kit is a good price too.

A couple of my oldest pairs of Crivit underlycrashorts are currently experiencing partial separation of the pad from the fabric, though in both cases it's only on the right and therefore almost certainly due to my right foot being my go-to unclipping-foot. They've both been in heavy rotation for at least three years so are by no means indicative of poor value.

Aye, I find the LiDL stuff is pretty robust. Not always the most 'chic' designs, but not bad sometimes. Mind you, black cycling shorts are black cycling shorts...

    Not sure about that ....

You can get good quality ones that aren't overly expensive if you know where to look.

That's true, but three years' wear isn't bad. I keep my 'good' stuff for distance riding, but I've also worn plenty of Aldi and LiDL gear and most of it is perfectly serviceable.

Had a LiDL-tastic time this afternoon, picked up two sets of panniers (for the kids/Mrs crowriver), a rucksack and a bike tool (we'll see how cheese-like are its qualities in time). Leith LiDL has plenty of these items in stock, plus the chain cleaning kit, and some decent looking commuter h****ts. Further along the aisle they still have last special deal's cycling gear too: picked up a track pump (to replace my decorative but malfunctioning Revolution one), and some 3/4 length shorts. They also have mitts, cycling tops, more h****ts, socks.

Worth a scour before it all goes...

    Crivit pannier review:

Well not bad for the price - a tenner for a set of two bags.

Set 1: can only be described as Ortlieb roller knock-offs. I got a pair in a fetching shade of green. Despite looking waterproof, seams not welded but would probably withstand fairly heavy rainfall. Classic LiDL design flaw in placing a zip pocket on the waterproof face, but without a waterproof zip... However in a belt and braces approach, another zipped compartment in the base of each bag contains an elasticated rain cover, in fire red. The hooks are quite tough, but look as though they may not last very long. Shoulder straps, fasteners, seems pretty robust. Reflective detailing. Not keen on the Crivit badge but hey.

Overall 6/10, good value despite the flaws.

Set 2: Mini shopper panniers, in flame red nylon with a rubberised interior backing. A big zip at the top, and sturdy velcro closed reinforced loop handles to carry like a 'normal' bag. A diagonal zip pocket on the front, protected by a storm flap. No Crivit branding, but a reflective stencil of cyclist on a step-through frame bike with basket. Again zipped compartment in the base of each bag contains an elasticated rain cover, in fire red. Same hook system as the previous bag. Also a shoulder strap included which cups onto D rings either side.

Overall 6/10, not exactly Basil quality but pretty good for the price.

Good marks for the LiDL bike multi-tool so far. Sturdy, well packed with loads of allen keys, screwdrivers, spoke keys, a chain tool and even two tyre 'irons' neatly clipped onto the sides. Has been used a few times and performed flawlessly so far.

Only grumble is no 5mm allen key. Oh and there's a spring clip type thingy which is under one of the tyre 'irons' which I can't figure out the purpose of. Kind of like a sturdy partly unwound paperclip. ???

That's likely to be a chain hook, used to hold a chain together as the chain is being joined.

    Probably...

@Roibeard, sounds eminently feasible. I did think it might be some kind of linking tool, now that you mention it seems obvious that's what it is... :-)

Indeed, a quick search reveals remarkably similar tools (the LiDL one lacks the wee extra curl at one end):

LiDL version more like this Topeak one:

It's hidden under one of the grey tyre 'irons', vis:
