Just to complete the obvious places to post this message...

    Hi all

With support from CTC Scotland/Cycling UK (depending on how up-to-date you are with their rebranding :)) we've just launched a Kidical Mass group for Glasgow and the surrounding areas. Family cycling, led rides along safe routes, that sort of stuff.

    More here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/kidicalmassglasgow/

We're aiming for a first ride on 14 May, hopefully in Pollok Park unless Glasgow Council throw a spanner in the works... If you're vaguely in the area, please come along!

    Cheers!

You could bring back Pedal the Parks. Started at the Green then Richmond Park, Queen's Park, Pollok Park and finished up in Cardonald.

Could squeeze Bellahouston in there too. Definitely an idea for later, although at around ten miles would probably exclude the smallest riders...

That was it, I knew it was Cardonald but couldn't remember the name of the park.

Pretty wee kids used to do it. The old Glasgow Cycling Campaign yellow leaflet had a photo of a kid riding on it. I was beside her in the photo but I have no idea who she was.

The Common Wheel could probably help out with the route. I might be in there later or next week as my 10 year old bottom bracket is not coming out. Or I might just use fire.

A Europe-wide Kidical Mass weekend on 14/15 May 2022 is aiming to get as many kids out and cycling as possible, showing support for cycle-friendly cities.

Edinburgh's ride is on 15 May, 2pm meeting at Harrison Park followed by a ride to the Meadows.

What’s planned for when people get to The Meadows?

You do realise the agenda for Pedal the Parks in 1986(?)

Glasgow bylaws were being reviewed, and the long standing ban on cycling in parks was in the cross-hairs, with curiously well informed Glasgow campaigners (who 'happened' to know Glasgow Parks & Leisure Officers with a sympathetic view on getting parks opened up for cycling)

The first PtP was closely observed to see if the case for allowing cycling was sound. The second year was more relaxed and so in easy stages we changed the policy.

Kiddical Mass also reminds me of a pioneer ride, Glasgow-Balloch ploughing through undergrowth and along the disused railway. We had a 7 year old, at the start, and his mum planned to collect him in Clydebank, about halfway to Balloch. In the event all the adults were struggling to hold the kid back and he completed the 21 miles....

We're ending at the big playpark but I am attempting also to find a band willing to busk there - otherwise most of my efforts have been more logistical I'm afraid. If anyone wants to help out organising stuff when we get there please let me know!

We sent mini and micro SRD on their own - given it was supposed to be for the kids.

Thanks for organising @algo et al

@SRD - yeah I saw them but didn't get a chance to say hello - there's a nice few pics of them from Andy Catlin I think - your two obviously grand on their own but good to have parents present for the smaller ones!

could be worse as it's from the EEN, but still not really portraying the happiness very well in my view....
