I decided to cut between Gilmore Place and Fountainbridge via. the signed cycle route across the Leamington Lift Bridge and down Gilmore Park this afternoon. On the 700x25 slicks - big mistake! (or should that be, mis-skate?) Once over the bridge I was confronted with frozen slush / snow / tyre tracks. I managed to negotiate that by steering down the snowy bits to avoid sliding. Half-way down I thought the ordeal was over as the ground looked pretty firm. Firm it was, unfortunately it was a solid layer of c.2 inches of ice which I think has formed from run-off of the brewery site. I would heartily recommend you avoid this route unless you have crampons and snow chains on - it was quite terrifying and could easily have slid straight out onto the busy maid road at the bottom.
