Greenroofer is going to be doing the behind the scenes work in the run-up, but I will be "in charge" in Harrison Park on the day, so, Chrisfl, any help you can give will be most welcome!

I'm not 100% sure yet but I might be able to help out at Harrison Park.

Thanks, but not all mine - joint group of PoP photos for free use for promoting PoP.

Just randomly looking through this thread, I noticed an offer from Greenroofer to write a 'how to' guide. Is that still a possibility?

Also had someone offering one from Fairmilehead (possibly someone on here?) - my knowledge of Edinburgh geography is not good enough to know whether that will help fill out the various wards or not.

@sallyhinch - I did say I would. I'll put something on here for critical review in the next day or two.

@sallyhinch - yes, Fairmilehead would cross off ward 8 - Colinton/Fairmilehead. Also ward 10 (Morningside) if they stop along the way. Morningside probably already accounted for anyway.

OK, thanks. She's asked if she can be put in touch with those with experience of feeder rides with kids in the past - OK if I pass her on to some of you?

@sallyhinch - happy for you to pass on my email address to someone who I can talk to about the HP feeder ride, if that will help.

Here's a brain dump of how to organise a Feeder Ride. Sorry it's a bit long, but, as the wise man said, I haven't had time to make it shorter. I'd welcome and suggestions, additions or improvements.

@sallyhinch - when it's been agreed as being good enough, I think I can give you a PDF version for your website that's a bit more elegant than this one.

Thanks! first glance looks good. I wondered if it might be a bit offputting for someone who was planning on shepherding a dozen or so riders and a couple of kids - maybe point out that the HP ride is BIG and thus requires a bit more planning than a smaller one?

A couple of photos would be marvellous. I can turn it into a POP blog post but a PDF would be good if people might want to print it out and refer to it.

"so do take a little moment to yourself on the ride to recognise this and feel quietly pleased with yourself for having played your part in making it a success."

so *that's* what I forgot to do...

    - can I add also - ask a friendly person to take pics of your ride, or even a video.

  14. There'll be a Leith Feeder ride again this year, setting off from the usual place outside the Leith Cricket Club on Leith Links at 10:00am, and heading to the Meadows on a mostly off-road route via Lochend Park / Holyrood Park.
Roberto, Gordy and I will be leading again (unless anyone else would like a wee shot!)

I think greenroofers' summary is pretty good and comprehensive, but shouldn't off putting to potential organisers.

We didn't go as far as a formal risk assessment but having a couple of reliable cycling folk with you will get you out of most difficulties. Even if you haven't planned it you should have some with you.

The route choice is a good advice. The Corstorphine/Roseburn route worked well, which I now appreciate is because the only traffic controlled junction we used was the King's Theatre one where we had a police officer.

People at traffic lights on green expect to go (and will get impatient if the vehicle in front is stopped) whereas at un-signaled junctions they have no choice if the car in front has stopped.

Building in enough time to regroup if you need to is a good idea.

A back marker with a trailer is a good idea not just as an emergency transport for tired children but also for the road presence. Ours would cycle next to the centre line making it clear that we didn't want anyone overtaking (and getting stuck halfway along our peleton). It's also a job that can be combined with kiddy-wrangling as they just need to cycle at a steady pace.

If you are worried about the traffic nearer to town then try to combine with existing feeder rides. If someone wants to run a ride linking in with us at the Russell Road/NEPN zigzags we'd be more than happy to have them (Hint Hint...)

Thanks for the feedback folks - now incorporated. I've added some pictures (with appropriate credits to @chdot where due), but these have rather messed up the Google Docs version I shared above.

@sallyhinch there's a much more usable PDF on its way to you.

    Fab, thanks.

Also got an offer of a feeder ride from Gracemount - that looks like it's actually in Midlothian electorally, but all to the good!

    EDIT - looking again it's Liberton/Gilmerton

I think it would be good to have some sort of a map of feeder rides as they develop so we can make sure we're covering most of the ground. I've had a couple of people just offer to do a feeder ride generally, without necessarily being tied to a particular place, so if I had a list of gaps we were hoping to fill that would be good.

@sallyhinch - Gracemount feeder ride could join up with us at either Inch Park or the Bike Station, if they want to.

Here's what I've got so far for Edinburgh - have I missed anything? http://pedalonparliament.org/pop-edinburgh/getting-there/

Just checking back through past rides, Nigel Bagshaw organised an Inverleith one but can do it this year - worth getting one from there?

Also the normal organiser of the Portobello ride can't manage it - anyone able to step in on that one?

Unfortunately our normal Fife feeder ride organiser can't make it either this year. Has anyone here done that ride? It would be great to keep that going, as it's been running since the off

Hi folks, one of the Belles is organising the feeder ride from Fairmilehead and is keen to source a willing volunteer or two to help her if possible. Is anyone in that neck of the woods willing to lend her a hand? If so I can put you in touch. Many thanks in advance if anyone can help!

Sally - I've dropped them an email suggesting they may want to join the West Edinburgh feeder ride from the Russell Road Zigzags into the Meadows.

It would make sense if those coming from DMains direction just awaited their arrival and tagged along with them. Anyone want to take on coralling people ready to roll?

We're asking Scottish Canals nicely if they can keep the towpath open by the Boroughmuir HS for us as the detour looks horrid. Fingers crossed...

Cool, although can you get tandems up the Zig Zags? Definitely worth filming the attempt ...
