The North-Esk loop mentioned is a nice ride. However the surface description is inaccurate "Mostly tarmac, with short
sections of whindust/hard gravel" at least when I last passed a couple of months ago. The section of the Bonnyrigg-Penicuik cycleway south of Rosewell to the outskirts of Penicuik would be tricky without wide tyres unless it's been dry for some time.
