All the opposition parties promised to increase investment in active travel (by varying degrees). Of course, most of them don't mean it.

Cabinet reshuffle in the first few days? Derek McKay seems to be highly thought of by some, so will he get a more "important" role than Transport?

Richard Lochhead and Alex Neil both out of government, according to the BBC.

Derek McKay and Fergus Ewing into cabinet posts, it seems.

Also all the ministers arrived by chauffeur driven car at the entrance of Bute House (except, interestingly, Keith Brown).

Demotion for John Swinney? Got the Education brief (still Deputy FM).

Derek Mackay is in Finance, Keith Brown Economy.

    Shona Robison keeps Health.

    Roseanna Cunningham takes Environment.

Fergus Ewing takes Rural, Farming, Fisheries.

    Michael Matheson keeps Justice.

Angela Constance moves to Social Security.

    Fiona Hyslop keeps Culture.

    Here are the motley crew:

Seems to me to be a clear message of importance of Education. He's still DFM

Whoever it is, their first job is to get that pavement fixed.

Fergus Ewing is Cab Sec responsible for transport.

@Morningsider, please tell me that's not the case.

We thought it couldn't get worse than Brown and Mackay, but it seems it could... :-(

    Seems it's true.

"Fergus Ewing MSP, Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Connectivity" according to ScotGov twitter feed.

    A9 dualling ahoy! :-(

    Isn't A9 already fully happening?

Aye, but then there's the A96 to do...

Perhaps a junior minister will be given direct responsibility for transport, as Ewing's title doesn't contain it. He'll still be the overall boss though.

An "interestingly" wide brief for Fergus Ewing:
Rural Scotland, Highlands Islands Enterprise, Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Food and drink, Crofting, Transport, Connectivity including 100 per cent broadband.
    [Taken from the SG website]

Shows how highly Transport is regarded by the government...

Shirley-Anne Somerville is a noted opponent of public transport, big fan of the new Forth crossing.

"It's about building Scotland's future, and that includes the Forth Crossing. It is of strategic importance to the Scottish economy, not just of Fife and the Lothians, not just to the east of Scotland, but to our whole country. No other country would have a debate about whether this bridge should be built or not, it is so important."

Humza Yousaf is Minister for Transport and the Islands. Bizarre set up - he will be reporting to three separate cabinet secretaries. (Economy, Climate Change and Rural Economy and Connectivity).

    Anyone Minister for Tourism?

That really should be joined to Transport.

Rosie - no junior minister for tourism. It has been added to the remit of Fiona Hyslop - now Cab Sec for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs.

I've got a fair bit of time for him though - seems to have handled Int Dev well.

and, dare I say it, good to have a city-based MSP?
