SEStran Commuter Challenge 2016 - commuters needed

      Date: Thursday June 9th
Start: Early for a 7.30am set off from four commute P+R sites around city.
Finish: Around 8.00am in St Andrew Square - depending on whether you use a cycle, bus, train, tram or car. (Or something else)

As with last year we expect Enterprise (formerly known as City Car Club) to provide a few Evs.

Last year we had a great response from forumers combining or altering their normal commute. Thank you again for making this so successful that SEStran want to do again.
This year we're looking for more relaxed cycling though, so whilst Audaxers are welcome on Ferrytoll leg, others can be done on less racy machines.

The class of last year can be seen here!
    http://edfoc.org.uk/events/event/sestran-commuter-challenge-2016/

    Guess how many are Audaxers?!

There were 16 in all but some people had to go to work before this shot was taken. Event covered by BBC. Free coffee and cake and t-shirts were supplied. Was very sunny.

Pm me if you're interested in doing (again even).
    Or email me at laid-back@blueyonder.co.uk

Please count me in from Ferrytoll again! I'm looking forward to it!

    I'll ride a bike in.

Is Mark F entering by car again?

I fancied a crack at Newcraighall as it was the one where driving prominently did better. I'm not sure if I'll be free this year though.

Thanks DaveC - will check with him.

Harts Cyclery is doing something - Ingliston I expect.

@ontwoplanks is signed up to cycle one leg - maybe Newcraighall.

Not the year I did it from there!

WC - welcome to bus or cycle in. Think we have train covered. D

    Every year
    Organisers: It's not a race
    Cyclists: *race*

  8. In fairness the 2 or 3 times I did it we had two cyclists from the start points. One was to be the 'fast' cyclist, the other the more sedate. The pace I try and ride to work (for training purposes) is basically exactly the same as the pace I rode in the challenge.

Unfortunately, I've got the wee one on a Thursday so get the train in for a 10:30 start. I'd have been happy to do the non super fast run on the bike from Ferrytoll though.

If the stars fall into allignment and circumstances do allow, I'll do a cycle run in from Fife.

I'm being tempted/coerced/encouraged to bring the torpedo to the Straiton start point. Of course, it means commuting to the start, commuting to StAS, then commuting to work.

Of course, it's not very representative of cycling. :)

Thanks Mark F / BC for doing last year of course.
Search is now on to find someone to drive in from Ferrytoll.

Arellcat - That would be good. You will be up against at least one other non-typical commuter. She plans to run in - despite a perfectly good bus service ;-) !
If Enterprise supplies a plug in car with plug in driver then we just need a bus user. Could/would Uberuce use a bus?

I could do the Newcraighall ride. The start is just a couple of miles from here and the route is quiet until the top of Calton Road. I wonder if there's a cut-through from the front of the St James Centre to St Andrews Square.

    That would be great.

    Numbers so far are

    - Runner + cyclist Straiton
    - DaveC cycling from Ferrytoll
    - Cyclist + tramer from Ingliston
    - Cyclingmollie + trainer (Rabid?) from Newcraighall

Two Enterprise cars we hope and two other drivers needed.

Impossible for me to do this for work reasons, but would have loved to do the race (know it isn't, honestly) from Straiton.

Resumé of how we are doing on our search for 'fake commuters' ;-)
They will become more famous with their names on 4mm correx on June 9th
Some real first names and some forum names.
Had some interest from Algo and Frisklifa - they can see who is on what leg here.

      Straiton:
      • RUN - Julia L
      • BIKE - Kate F
      • BIKE - DK
      • BUS - DK 2

      Ingliston:
      • BIKE - Andrew B
      • RUN - George E
      • TRAM - Irene G

      Ferrytoll:
      • BIKE - DaveC
      • BUS - Gerry McL

      Newcraighall:
      • TRAIN - Roibeard G
      • CAR - CC?
      • BIKE - Cyclingmollie

Only one car - still tbc. Enterprise will manage one or two I hope.

Each route has space for six entrants.
If bikes outnumber other means of transport then so be it.
We may have one electric bike.

Harts Cyclery and Electron expressed interest too.

I'd be interested in cycling from NewCraighall if @CyclingMollie doesn't mind the cyclists' average time being distinctly worse than if he did it alone..... Don't mind doing Ingliston either if that's better.

I could be the runner from Newcraighall....07h30's a bit brutal for a resting actor like myself and I'll likely have a terrifying beetroot heid on me when I arrive, but the thought of chasing algo down the Innocent like an overweight and amiable wild dog is intriguing.

@IWRATS - and you wonder why people thought you were overweight? I can confirm IWRATS is neither overweight nor canine...

    Is he "resting"?

He is just resting in his account.

A suit I bought in 2008 is now almost too tight. I blame a year in which, sadly, I had to drive to work in an automobile. Seen next to a clean living roadie I am a heffalump. Seen next to the average Scot I am invisible and therefore not seen.

I thought I was resting, but am now in some doubt.

Algo, I'd be glad of the company. I'll be on the "tractor" MTB and trying to find the quietest possible route - Innocent, Dumbiedykes, Calton Road.

Ok. Noted. On train to Aberdeen delivering the Helios triplet. Virgin guard was overjoyed.
Only booked two bike spaces. Only 2.3m so same as many big wheeled tandems...

Anyway... Algo better from Ingliston if ok?
    Iwrats running Newcraighall.
Email will go out this thursday to all signed up. Thank you.

May revise so Algo goes from Newcraighall. Can see fun potential there!

I'll be running after algo in the style of Psy at 3m57s.

@LB - thanks - Newcraighall it is as long as that's ok - I'll have to come up with some sort of eccentric cycling style to match IWRATS' running. I'll consult the manuals.

Let me know though if it turns out you need a cyclist from Ingliston.

  28. If you struggle to get someone from Ferrytoll I could hop on a train out there. Would have to pretty much head straight off to work after arriving at St Andrew Sq mind, and I'll not be as fast as DaveC.

    It's not a race...

  30. It was pointed out that from Ferrytoll it was okay to have speedier riders, and also above that they're looking for someone who can do it in under 40 minutes, which for me will be 'racing' pace.
