As a result of various odd co-incidences I and Madame IWRATS wound up doing a few days' work running an event for these people at the Le Mans MotoGP.

For those that don't know, pump track is an amusing form of cycling for anyone from 3 to 90. The idea is hurl yourself into the banked corners of a wooden rollercoaster track using body weight transfer rather than pedalling for propulsion. Any road, everyone loved it including a range of incredibly drunk French bikers and some wildly keen kids. We got a GP racer to have a go, and, of course the very lovely Monster Girls also allowed themselves to be coaxed into helmets and onto BMX and mountain bikes...and of course someone had to give them their safety briefing.....and be right about their saddles.

Did they also have some monster boys promoting fizzy pop or are they stuck back in the 1980s with tacky glam promo girls?

they had one monster boy in a flat cap

the monster girl with her hands in the air is maybe making an ironic statement about how France is stuck in the 1980s when it comes to gender politics? Remember women only got the vote there in 1944?

See also the podium at the end of eaCH TOUR DE FRANCE stage.

the original link to the monster girls was a picture of IWRATS fixing bikes but not sure what has happened there as i don't think that link is right (certainly not at work). Ah wait the first link is still IWRATS in the cap the second link is the one to avoid. No, that is not right either, where has IWRATS and Cap gone? First link is fine at work though.

Yes, gender politics in France are sticky. Article 3 of the 1946 constitution declares absolute parity between the sexes and was the beginning of universal suffrage there, and yet entry to the top universities was men-only until the late sixties. The language also imposes binary gender by its very structure. I've no idea what pronouns the gender fluid use there.

As regards the marketing personnel, I did not spot any liveried Monster Boys although there was a gargantuan Essex firefighter called Keith who stood behind the Monster Girls when they were on stage. He was very kind and gentle when not on duty, and quite possibly when he was on duty too.

I wonder how many extra cycle kilometers we'd have had to incite to offset the effects of the sugary drinks we were promoting? Minefield, innit?

(The lady on the BMX was quite a good rider. Perhaps someone could get her to front PoP rather than fizzy pop?)
