My seal skinz are a total liability when it's actively raining better with a comfortable pair of wool socks. However for the next day or after work when it's stopped raining but ones boots are still soaking they're a blessed luxury!

Signor Bax. I have those boots they are good. But Autumn and Spring still a bit warm. Once the water gets inside the sock it sloshes about which ain't too cool. However, on balance I like them. You need to dry them inside out.

i thought all spd road shoes these days had outlet holes

unless you're mired in the MTB recessed morass all year round

I bought a winter jersey along with socks and a very snazzy buff. The jersey is really nice, cut so much better than those from a couple of years ago

Yeah the shoes have outlet holes but the socks don't. Bax San you have forced me to say the following

Do you have any holes in your socks?

    No I don't

How do you get your feet in then?

So Ingress down the leg and if sock not taped around the hole, the water is then inside. Given the layer of waterproofness this means it cannot get out to then get out the shoe.

you only need to keep your torso dry

trying to keep legs dry is ridiculous waste of time

keeping feet dry is a valiant effort not without cause

but still of little benefit compared to torso

    discuss

Happy to get wet if not cold. Strive to have clothes dry again by home time.

Keeping feet warm is crucial but as Bax has said, you can wear bootees or overshoes.

I go with extremities rather than core

Definitely feel it in extremities. Overshoes and full fingered gloves go on before leg/arm warmers and long sleeve jerseys/tights.

One thought on all this range is just how black it all is. e.g. the merino jersey is 100% black.

Not saying everything has to be fluoro, but the lack of a reasonable bit of reflective detail in a lot of the kit is not great.

Warm torso sorts everything else. Extremities only need the wind chill kept off.

Wet doesn't matter if you're warm.

    YMMV

Last year's base layer was red. But is all a bit dark this year fo' shu'

On the core extremities debate. You are either core or extremitities. As this thread has quickly shown

Dunfermline still has various items from the last cycle event. Some of it's 20% off but some is 50% off. However like the winter range the clothing is mostly ninja black. Unlike Mr Ford's customers I don't want black.

The Socks seem to vary their wool content depending on the pattern. In some patterns there is more nylon than wool but like paddyirish I chose the 38% wool ones.

I wonder why so much of the range is black or dark colours as well

Last night I noticed nearly all rear moon lights sold out in livi plenty of front. I was tempted to buy a new one as been such a good bright light, but as mine has lasted quite some time may not be required.

Tried some kit on a dampish commute this morning, so here is a quick review.

Merino Jersey felt a little itchy at first, but overall was nice on the back and arms and a good fit, but the wind panel on the front is a synythetic material which just holds sweat next to the skin. In addition to it being all black, it will probably be used as a deep winter baselayer and not much else.

The leg warmers were similar with the lower leg made of probably the same material. The provis type colour helped at least.

"Merino" socks were pretty warm, but concerned about the high nylon content for breathability.

finally the fly6 ripoff was a mixed bag. Picture and sound quality were pretty good, but it was quite large and it takes 4.5hrs to charge fully.

However, it has a few design issues- communicates to you by beeps- just tried to recharge in the office and has 4 very loud beeps when you plug it in and it turned the light on. I turned the light off and got 4 loud beeps. The charge completed - 4beeps and I unplugged- 4 beeps.
Think my work neighbours think I'm a beeping pain in the posterior.

It comes with a 8GB micro SD card but that will provide under an hour's recording, so I will need to upgrade that to a 32GB one, which is the maximium allowed to cover a longer ride.

Most worryingly it turned itself off mid ride yesterday when I was doing the school run. Key message there is don't rely on it as a sole rear light.
In theory it is supposed to switch off the camera when battery level was 5% (giving you 1.5hrs of light), but it switched off both camera and light and the beeping beeps told me it still had more than 75% charge.

Will be a bit more getting to know it before I decide whether it is more trouble than it is worth.

My moon light low power light has never worked, thinking of buying that camera light but will wait for more reviews as doubt it will sell out that fast as 40 quid.

@Ed1 Do you mean they are selling lights made by Moon or something similar? I did see them today in Musselburgh Aldi (which has lots of everything except the men's merino tops) but I didn't look closely at them. I bought a pair of neoprene gloves and some socks.

I meant my fake something similar moon light sold by Aldi that I bought last year or the year before

Had a chance to try my new (and first ever) neoprene gloves and waterproof socks today. Kept me nice and warm -- even a little bit too warm perhaps.

our fake moon lights (comet)* from aldi worked at least as well all year as the legit moon comets. have just invested in two more sets of the 'comet' nebula* style, and 1 of the pricier sort, since we now need lights for all 5 of our commute/school bikes....

we've had a couple of bracket fails recently, but I suspect that's inevitable. and they're easy to replace - EBC stocks them....

*corrections made after davidsonsdave's post and a google.

The fake moon nebula lights from aldi are quite awesome. Fingers crossed they last.

There wasn't any left in the Gorgie Aldi but they had some left in Haddington on Saturday. Not exactly convenient though.

For those that missed the last time round or those who want a bit more, possibly this weekend as they have skiwear special this weekend.

    So probably (hopefully) baselayers.

On Sunday 29th. Maybe not as good as before, but something of interest for those with very young kids?

i do luv a good Aldi cycling special - however this one sadly a bit meh.

About a quarter of the usual size, no base-layer or merino socks which are both usually ace.

    never mind - next time.
