    @jonty I read the handsfree helmet is not waterproof so no use for us in Scotland. Quite sure you were not seriously considering, but wanted to highlight!

    @iainmcr, merino base layer comes in the autumn sale. I picked up a hilarious Rapha ripoff summer base layer in last year's Spring one. Not so much this time round, I didn't need socks. That is why I bought the teapot fir a colleague. She seems to like it.

    @rob might take a look I have an icebreaker (second from the sadly defunct Leckies of Falkirk) with a zip neck for colder days but also thumb holes in the cuffs which are a weak point now (unless you have two thumbs on each hand). Also have a Rapha (sale) deep winter roll neck I could have done with this morning. THat is a toasty bit of kit

    I have added an event to my doary (new improved spelling of 'diary') to buy one of the bar bags.

    I know what I will be doing on 8th of March then.
    Thanks for sharing this @Murun Buchstansang as I was looking for a saddle bag.

    @IWARTS 'doary' :D

    How dare you call me middle class? I'm going outside to swear about the Hearts while vaping cherry-cake. Also looking forward to turning my newly refurbished Purdeys (been in the family for simply ages) on the grouse on the estate in August.

    Must admit I love the electric chainsaw, it has taken so much effort out of providing the winter wood supply.

    And will be buying the handlebar bag..

    Pretty sure our own DaveC has proved his skills with the sewing machine. Dave, didn't you make some frame-fitting bikepacking type bags recently?

    Check out the Lidl bike light set, too. I bought one yesterday as a potential replacement for my pair of Smart Lunar 35s, which are TBC-era elderly and just don't light up the road enough anymore.

    The main light is switchable between 15, 30 and 60 lux, and has a STVZO-style beam shape with a strong horizontal cut-off. There's a slight sunstar-shaped reflective spill upwards and forwards, there's no flashing mode, and the bracket is a bit rubbery, but for £12 I thought it was worth a try. The rear light is just on/off, yet also has a noticeable horizontal beam shape. Although won't trouble my Knog Kid Grid it's a nice little backup.

    I went in to Lidl yesterday morning to get the handlebar and the saddle bag. They seem quite well made. I brought them home and fitted on the bike.

    The handlebar one doesn't fit between the drop bars. Somehow I didn't think it through.

    The saddle bag didn't feel as well secured as the Alpkit one I have from @sheeptoucher on a long-term hire.

    I returned both bags. I am sure there is nothing wrong with them but they didn't fit well on my bike.

    @bill

    Thanks. Unlikely any bag doesn't fit on my Jones H-Loops but I shall examine the issue at lunchtime.

    @Iwrats which bar bags did you get? If this https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/cycling-accessories/crivit-bike-bag-assortment/p30164
    would you mind posting the gap between the velco holder-onners. My OH has a bike with an awkwardly placed light plus a load of cables that mayke barbag fitting awkward.

    @amir

    Yes, the roll-bag in that range. Bar straps are 25mm across and adjustable 50-85mm centre-to-centre. Very easy to move without rupturing the waterproof compartment if you have a sewing machine.

    Let me know if you want a loan of one for a fitting I have two...

    @amir, I wouldn't bother. If this afternoon's visit to LiDL Easter Road is anything to go by, these bags are completely sold out.

    The user manual is terrifying.

    This bag must not be filled with inadmissible contents! Do not use any sharp-edged tools such as spatulas!

    @crowriver there were never any in the Dalkeith branch. But there were the other barbags.

    There were none in the Gorgie Lidl this evening, and after I got the last saddle bag in the Slateford store, there were only two frame bags left there. All thanks to a City E-Bike hire.

    I had a look when they were announced. They looked quite similar to the Pod tarpaulin-based stuff I picked up for very little from PlanetX a while back so I didn't rush to get anything. Since my last Revolution seatpack died I've been using a Topeak thing which still has a couple of years left in it before I need to fit the Pod replacement.

    @Arellcat: "Check out the Lidl bike light set, too. ... The main light is switchable between 15, 30 and 60 lux, and has a STVZO-style beam shape with a strong horizontal cut-off. ... there's no flashing mode"

    I have a feeling that at one time the StVZO standard didn't allow flashing lights - or possible only at low output settings in daylight - though that may have changed.

    My understanding (which may be entirely wrong) is that an StVZO certified light should have a K number on it. The photo in the Lidl web site suggests that the front light does (K15<something>5). My version of that light bought a couple of years ago is marked K1239 (confusingly, its light output is given in lumens so it's not easy to compare it directly to the current model, although the battery is definitely lower capacity and comparing the quoted run times suggests that the current model's output is higher at all settings).

    My Lezyne Pro 80+ which is my preferred front light for road use is marked K1473, and is also clearly marked "STVZO". Its beam cutoff does seem to be rather sharper than the Lidl light, but it's possible that the Lidl one is still good enough to comply with the standard. Neither light has a flashing mode (although the leaflet for the Lidl one says it does, it lies).

    Does your front light "automatically adjust to the environment" like it says on the Lidl web site? ISTR that it said the same about mine, but it doesn't (and the leaflet doesn't even claim that it does).

    After my alien abduction today I found that my back lights were not working (they are back working now, ok one of them is charging but the other fine).

    I therefore visited Gilmerton LIDL and bought the light set. It says on the packet - Front light automatically adjusts to the environment.

    Lidl in Musselburgh had the bike workstands I'd been after. Unfortunately a while ago I relented and ordered a nice Parktools one off Wiggle :-(

    They also had a few sets of panniers.

    Bought a couple of pairs of cycling shorts though it's more tights weather at the moment...

    Lidl on Slateford Rd had loads of men's shorts. None of women's.

    (My main walking shorts are men's ones (because they have decent size pockets and not pink in colour) but they made me appreciate male-female body dimensions differences)

    I always like the look of women's cycling and hiking gear (stop sniggering at the back there) but of course it's the wrong shape and the pockets are rubbish.

    Lidl Cycling Accessories from Sunday 24/05

    Not much but maybe something useful to some.

    I reckon I will get gloves and rainbow sunglasses.
