Hostility and hate speech towards cyclists

There may be another thread for this, no doubt invoking Jeremy Clarkson, but I was at a comedy evening last night in Musselburgh. I'd gone with a bus driving pal, who had quite a chucklesome routine about bus driving. After him was a woman whose jokes were about paedophilia (unfunny) and a few anti-cyclist jokes, which were lawyer jokes rehashed for cyclists. How can you be sure a cyclist is dead? Back over them - that kind of thing.

I was going to have words but she was being helpful and nice to my bus driving pal so didn't want to kick up a fuss. There were only about 8 people in the audience and none of them found her funny.

Odd random hate figure to choose though. There's going to be a good chance there will be people who cycle and parents of people who cycle in your audience.

I suppose reactionary people always need a target for their bile, to deflect attention away from their own shortcomings. Being racist, sexist, homophobic, sectarian, or prejudiced against folk with disabilities is not really socially acceptable any more, at least not in public, and not blatantly. Unless it's the UKIP conference. So where can an easy hate figure be found for the majority of the audience? Those bloody cyclists...

Yes indeed. Bit embarrassing really. I would almost feel sorry for this person if she wasn't such a clear saddo..
