Huge black bins on Middle Meadow Walk

    Someone keeps dragging several huge black bins onto the cycle lane on Middle Meadow Walk (the flat section between the crossroads and Marchmont). They're the big residential street bins, only without lids. It's happened at least twice this week so far. Because they're a very obvious hazard to cyclists - right on the cycle lane and big, black & solid with sharp edges - I've stopped and dragged them off the path every time I've encountered them.

    I'm going to get fed up of this quite quickly, so can anyone suggest what might be going on here or what to do next - for example is this being done by vandals trying to cause a bicycle crash, or is it being done by some cycle-blind bit of the council?

    I think the bins were emptied last night/this morning, which suggests to me that the issue is the relevant workers. worth tweeting or phoning south team ? you may need to do it a few times, but it does eventually work, especially if they paint lines on the ground for the bins: http://deceasedcanine.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/the-bins-part-2-is-this-what-victory.html

    I assume it could be the council emptying them are just too lazy to push them back off the path again?

    As others have said, I would assume this is the council emptying the bins and lazily not returning them to their correct location.

    I have often seen the bin men leaving our shared bins in the middle of our car park at my flat, rather than returning them to the bin store. A few tweets to the council and they've not done it since.

    The giant bins were back on the cycle path at lunchtime today. But I shall persist!
