I'm taking school trips to the zoo and dungeon at the end of the month. We're going to drop the zoo kids off on the way as there are only 10 of them going there.

Are we allowed to tell the driver to go along Princess St to get to the dungeon or would we be better going round the other side of the castle?

Services busses are allowed along the road but I don't know if hire coaches are.

If the sign says 'local buses only' only scheduled service buses can

If it's a normal bus lane *any* vehicle registered as being able to carry 8 or more excluding the driver can use them.

I think Princes St is the latter as we have very few of the former in Edinburgh.

    Thanks.

Coach drivers are not always at their most cheery with school trips. Can't say as I blame them.

Yes your buses can use Princes street.

Only possible restriction is at Haymarket west bound (West Maintland Terrace) where it says "local buses only". Given it doesn't "permit" cyclists to use the route, but frequently ignored, I'd also ignore it in a bus.

There are approved plans to restrict tour buses stopping and dropping off folk at hotels, but not sure when that starts.
