Really good article to appear in the National....

It's good, and good that the National has tumbled to active travel as a way of moving our country in the right direction.

Vonny's an arts journalist and she's got a good descriptive article out of her holidays. The question we need to ask is; 'What political structure(s) allowed Danish road policy to follow the citizens' needs rather than the motor manufacturers' fantasies?'

What would happen if Ms Sturgeon started cycling to meetings on a customised tartan Paper Bike? Would that change anything?

(Delighted to learn that 'unskilled' is Danish for 'sorry!)

Good article. Hopefully won't attract the same abuse as her last one.

I visited Copenhagen about 10 years ago (before I started cycling) and loved it. I remember at the time thinking "yes, I could quite easily live here".

Maybe, just maybe, more things like this might start to make a small impression in the minds of the SNP?

@IwratS - ta for the education, as I'd just heard it and parroted it (a lot!) in Denmark.

"Unsch-coo", but to know that as "unskilled" makes so much sense!

I know people get upset about politicians going on "jollies" but I think it might actually help to have more of them experience first hand that yes, cities CAN be different. I feel like a lot of what we face is a lack of any real belief than things could be other than they are - so, some tinkering around the edges to make things very slightly nicer but no conviction.

I have no problems with politicians going off to see how other countries do things, whether it's literacy or transport.

I was impressed by Copenhagen, though I was constantly having to stop my sister walking in the cycle lane.

I was in Copenhagen last week and was amazed by the level of cycle use and the provision of infrastructure for cyclists.
If you were to design a city from a blank start point, Copenhagen would be a great place to base it on.

@rosie - nor me! I have been known to argue with people who think councillors going to look at how another council has done infrastructure / street design is a "jolly".

(I'm currently a pedestrian on physio's orders and keep catching myself walking in the cycle side on the Meadows and up MMW because that's where I'm usually moving.)
