Horrible scene at the junction of Comiston Road/Morningisde Drive. Police and ambulance in attendance. Bottom of Morningside Drive taped off - road shoes, helmet and cycling clothes (cut off by ambulance staff?) sitting in middle of the road. Grey Scott cyclo-cross type bike leant up at side of road. Cyclist off to hospital before I passed.

Best wishes to the cyclist involved.

I saw the aftermath too. I saw police interviewing people, and removing the bicycle from the immediate scene.

    Hope the cyclist is OK.

    Hi, new user here.

I was on the scene of this accident, was cycling behind the young man who was hit by car turning right onto Morningside Drive.

It was a very bad leg injury, hopefully he will make full recovery.

Thanks very much for joining/posting. Good to hear it's not as bad as it sounded like it might have been. And that there were witnesses.

    Welcome Eppy.

    Thanks for update.

Sounds bad, but obviously could have been worse.

Presume you gave police a statement.

'Protocol' here is not to speculate too much, but obviously you were there!

Not a great road layout now, due to the current pipe replacement work.

Yes gave police statement and was tending injured man until ambulance arrived. I better not say too much but was a horrible injury, he's a young fit man and I hope he can make full recovery.

    Thanks.

    Hope you're recovering too.

Different sort of trauma, but still traumatic.

Some people here have changed their cycling habits/routes after a crash.

One thing I'd say is there was a blind spot created by roadblock and sign to turn right.

Saw blue lights yesterday from Comiston Drive. Thought it was an emergency vehicle stuck with the box junction being blocked as often happens at present so didn't appreciate it was an actual incident.

Thoughts go to injured cyclist and hope they make a swift recovery and as others have said, that Eppy is not adversely affected.

    Hi everyone,

I'm the cyclist involved in the collision, thank you very much for your concern.

When riding down morning side road (travelling north) a car turned across my path when attempting to turn into morningside drive, when travelling south. This caused an open fracture of my left femur, which by all accounts was pretty nasty. I've been in hospital since, and am up and walking with crutches. I have some mobility issues that I am working on with physio, and have lost some muscle as it died and required surgical removal as a result of the trauma. I am however very grateful as things could be a lot worse.

If anyone witnessed the incident it would be much appreciated if they contact me.

Lastly my bike is a Scott CR1 road bike, might need to look at my set up given the original post :)

    Thanks, Dean

Welcome Cyclocross. It sounds pretty horrible but I hope you recover well. This message board is full of people who can help or at least point you in the right direction with legal aspects etc so don't be afraid to use it.
