It was awful it was a very close call if I had not screamed out,,,,

I know I just can't believe he drove off,,,i am just hoping somebody may remember as it was unusual seeing such a large lorry in rush hour

I was on the 26 bus just behind a Central cabs taxi and saw the lady cyclist getting up. Unfortunately I did not see the name on the side of the lorry, but perhaps the taxi driver was more observant than me! PS: the taxi driver was NOT involved in the accident. Hope the lady is ok & well done to you for helping.

Will check my camera footage tonight. I was in the area around then.

Could also ask Lothian Buses for the CCTV footage from the 26 bus, if the approximate time of the incident is known.

Stickman. Ditto. I will check my camera as I crossed the A8 a few minutes before @Murrayfield road.

  5. Police Scotland should be able to access CCTV along the route. Hope the victim is recovering well.

It looks like the person asking for help / reporting it is the lollipop lady.

    Not good.

    Was me.
Very, very lucky thanks to our lovely lollipop lady who I believe screamed and so stopped the truck. I wear the hovding airbag which protected my head - but was absolutely terrifying to come-to with my head next to the enormous wheels. Feel incredibly fortunate to be hobbling around this evening. Police have been informed but I have no details of the truck. No idea what I could have done differently. Stopped at the red pedestrian lights heading towards town and waited in the middle of the bus lane. Lorry next to me in right hand lane. Lights went green ....next thing I'm on the road. There's a nasty right filter there which causes silliness in the morning but I can't believe he didn't see me /left the scene. What are trucks this size doing at rush hour in town/near schools?

Hope that you're back to full fitness physically and mentally very soon and that this driver is apprehended ASAP.

Terrible incident. Driver / company needs brought in. In a country awash with cctv you would hope it could be traced. Of course large trucks shouldn't be coming in to town.
    Hope you get recovered soon.

@LB "Of course large trucks shouldn't be coming in to town".

+1, far too many massive lorries going to tiny wee Tesco/Sainsbury local shops etc in small streets.

Fiets, I hope you are recovering, and back on your bike soon.

@nelly Laidback. Was talking with the new Edinburgh Southern MSP about the yesterday - it's an area he'd like to engage with. Maybe worth an email?

That sounds horrific. I remember watching helpless in London as a lorry started to turn left across a cyclist's path (fortunately she was able to hop up onto the pavement to escape) - not even able to make myself heard over the noise of the engine, and not sure if I should even shout and distract the cyclist at the crucial moment. I honestly thought I was going to witness seeing someone crushed to death. Clearly lollipop ladies are made of sterner stuff.

Quite intrigued at the Hovding helmet thing - never heard of one actually being used in the wild (let alone having to prove it was working)

Thanks all for your wishes. Feeling much better for a weekend of rest.
Have contacted my local MP re artic trucks in town.
Re Hovding 'in the wild"! ...I was at first worried about exploding whilst tackling all the potholes/kerbs on way to work but has been OK and have been wearing daily for a couple of years now. Really impressed with it on Friday. Must have been fully inflated before contact with truck/road as I don't have a mark on head/ neck fine. Downside is cost of replacement - Which is reduced when you send away the "black box" which contains info about accident. Have sent off already- plan to be back on the bike soon :)
    No news about driver..

  20. Hi,

I've managed to get a comment from Police Scotland regarding this incident and I was hoping to publish an article appealing for witnesses and for the driver to hand himself into Police.

If you are happy for me to do this can you get in touch? info@scotlandsworstdrivers.com thanks

"plan to be back on the bike soon"

That's always 'the advice', but not always easy in reality.

Well done for being willing (not appropriate to say 'brave').

In light of the incident you (and any other locals may want to ensure your councillor is aware of your views on the planned protected cycle route through Roseburn.

Frank Ross is having surgeries tomorrow night

Roseburn Primary School, third Monday of each month (during school term) between 6pm and 7pm.

Saughton Church Hall, third Monday of each month (during school term) between 7.30pm and 8.30pm

Cllr Edie & Balfour don't have set times but you can phone for an appointment.

Alternatively emails are a useful option.
