I've had this for a few years now, all in all pretty happy with it.

Excellent review, I've never seen a folding MTB before - very interesting.

Funny you noted the bars are quite narrow, that would suit me - I am so used to drop bars these days that standard wide bars on my MTB feel like I am riding a Harley chopper!

    P.s. welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum @Jester. This thread intrigued me. Great review, and I checked out the website because this bike could be the one that persuades me to get an N+1 (where N is currently and always has been 1).

I'm desperate to get into the hills again, and like you, to use public transport but somehow avoid the risk of being stranded at some remote station. I would want a bike that would be great on any landrover track to get me nearer to the point where I start walking. I don't want to "mountain bike". Like @Nelly I think I could go with even narrower and flatter bars. I think I could do without the suspension forks as well, but I'm not used to this kind of bike. But for simplicity's sake, not sure they'd be of any benefit.

So, how do you use it @Jester? And have you ever had difficulty with it on public transport? Does it need to be bagged on a train?

When I ordered it came with a bag. There's been a few occasions when I've taken it by train and carried the bag with me in case I've needed to fold it, as once it is bagged it's "luggage". The bag is not overly large and folds down to be strapped to panniers or in a rucksack.

Here's a trip report where I cycled into Culra Bothy with it:

Question - how do you find cycling with a fairly loaded hillwalking backpack?

Assuming of course you are used to the load and it's comfortably packed and balanced for walking, do you find it in any way restricts you when on the bike or poses any aches and pains?

I've never found cycling with a hillwalking rucksack (inc. overnight loads) restrictive or uncomfortable.

I have had issues with the top of the rucksack (particularly when a camping mat is strapped up there) conflicting with a helmet, or even an unhelmeted head.

Can get a bit sweat-tastic on the hills, but keeping the load on the back rather than the bike makes the inevitable pushing, or fording tricky burns easier.

Years back I saw a middle-aged couple who carried both their (biggish) rucksacks on a specially constructed (but simple) frame which was attached to his rear rack.

It looked like quite a simple and quick solution although it did put quite a lot of weight quite far back and high up so not sure what the handling would have been like.

Hopefully not going too far off topic, but on the subject of folding bikes and rucksacks, "The Path Less Pedalled" web-site used Bromptons and because of their small wheels they were able to use a dowel arrangement at the saddle to support the top of the rucksack and rest the bottom of the pack on the rear rack......
