Excellent news - was just the pavement this morning.

Roseburn Park - shared path closed (now open!)

Oh no!
Some people will now complain that 'cyclists' are getting special treatment...

The woman leaning over her wall to talk to a friend as I was passing seemed relieved that the bikes were being moved further from her front gate, anyway. I wonder how long before residents shift the cones just a few inches so they can get their cars down to their drives again...

There is still a short section where it isn't possible to run the separate bike lane so you have to be on the pavement for that bit - about 10m.
It does say "dismount or use alternative route" which is fair enough.
To Arellcat's point about not everyone being able to dismount, there is enough visibility for special cases to check that there are no oncoming pedestrians before then venturing onto the pavement. Everyone who can, should dismount though.

The fenced off section has got narrower, with two points to dismount, and a pile of gravel has been dumped in it.

The fenced off section now runs on road for about 10ft, then you have to get on the pavemement and push, then back on the road for a few feet, then back on the pavement to push, then back on the road.
Have the workmen been sneakily pushing it back to close it off for a bit of fun?
I suppose there are big signs at each each asking cyclists to dismount, but then again there are spray-painted arrows & the word 'Cyclists' on the road where the cycling gap is (and was).

Completely blocked off now with large "cyclists dismount sign".
Angry local lurking there and taking photos of cyclists on the pavement. No doubt he'll turn up with his evidence at Murrayfield Community Council as another reason not to build the bike lane.

I was dismounted and walking past, as another cyclist was walking the other way - past the chap with the camera.
I bet he was disappointed!

Well, I was dismounted and walking at the back of 4pm last night, as were the other two cyclists I passed. I even have video evidence which would counter PG (though I'm sure he'd say we were Spokes stooges and had set the whole thing up in order to film it) ;-)
Bypassed Roseburn Park / Riversdale entirely this morning, opting for Roseburn Terrace / Corstorphine Road / Western Terrace / Saughtonhall Drive to get back onto Balgreen Road and the tram path. Forgot how bloody awful the road surface along Saughtonhall Drive is, which was made more scary by the council bin lorry sitting right on my tail waiting for a chance to pass.

Update from contractor
The piling works are moving very quickly in this section and we expect to be finished with the piling here by the end of the week and reinstate the temporary cycle path.
Please continue to dismount for the time being.

As there is (currently) no road, is that strip of tarmac still a pavement or just a path...

Unless PG is standing there 24/7, how can he know there are no other cyclists dismounting?
I went that way last night. Dismounted. The two people behind me dismounted. Two people coming the other way (including a team-kitted, sunglass-ed, carbon-fibre-biked chap who many may term a 'lycra lout') were walking. One, an older guy upright on a hybrid, was cycling.

I believe I've suggested such a distinction in the past, and Morningsider corrected me (correctly) that it's a false distinction (and probably even more of a false distinction when there is a road, just one that's being worked on).

Just realised that the pedestrian there who I nodded and smiled at as I walked through (doing my best for cyclist / pedestrian relations) would appear, I think, to have been Mr Gregson himself. So if he says in the future he didn't see any cyclists walking then he's totally lying.
That said, just speaking with a colleague of mine who cycled last night, and was filmed by him (from the description) cycling on the pavement.
EDIT: interestingly he wasn't filming the walking cyclists.

FFS now we are going to have t go out and film all the cyclists dismounting and not dismounting to counteract the following claim None of the cyclists I filmed dismounted.

Well as it turns out I still had my onboard camera running, and I forgot to format the card this morning. So had a quick check, and you're right, it wasn't PG, but in any event means I've already got one clip (all that's needed really) that shows people walking, if anyone pipes up that NO-ONE was walking.
I'll go back to avoiding the area now (I'd gone that way yesterday just for a change, completely forgetting about the roadworks, and can't be bothered with the antagonism - every day I try to be a little bit more zen like you gembo, which is a nice state of affairs, and so slightly worrying to read your post the other day about shouting at someone....)

Yes WC you will see that after my shouting I have taken some time off to recharge my zen batteries as have noticed getting too narky. Is there a good cycle route down to samhe ling?

I'm sure our concerned resident is also filming the cars parked on pavements in the area, the speeding cars in the area and all the illegal parking on nearby Roseburn Terrace.

Even if some cyclists did not dismount, what does it prove? That cyclists are human beings? (and human beings are capable of ignoring/not seeing signs)

Yes Eddie-h, nice hi 5 yesterday by the way. But PG Tips won't say some dismounted some didn't he will say None that I filmed dismounted and we will have to show a film of dismounting and non dismounting which he will claim we have staged or fabricated

I must remember to check my footage from yesterday when I get home tonight. I do recall a chap standing in his garden watching us go by, but hadn't noticed him filming.
I'll be going home that way tonight so I'll give him a big smile/thumbs up/wave to the camera if here's there again!

That there is even a fellow standing with a camera filming people cycling 5m on a pavement via a busy through route for bikes is beyond tragic. Srsly. There are bigger things to worry about. By that reckoning there should be a constant filming vigil for illegal parking, mobile phone use in cars, speeding, folk not picking up after their dogs and litterbugs.

Totally agree with Claire.
I also wouldn't criticise any cyclist who continues to cycle along the path there as long as they do it carefully and considerately, giving way to any pedestrians etc.
It is extrmely frustrating the way the path has slowly but surely over the last year been completely closed both sides of the river now under the tram and railway bridges through to Westfield Street.
The alternative forcing cyclists out onto Balgreen Road is not ideal, especially the potentially hazardous right turn to rejoin the WOL Path at the skateboard park in Saughton Park as there is only one lane there outside the greenway there whe approaching the roundabout.Posted 8 years ago # -

Big jack, I stop on left hand side at pedestrian crossing and hit button to get green man to make that right turn
Dismount or keep cycling debate has rumbled on aqueduct for years.
On this one though I would definitely dismount and ask the cat with the camera, Are you filming this too?
