Saw an excellent(?) lighting failure on friday evening. A cyclist in front of me appeared to not have a back light but as I got closer I noticed there was a red glow around the back area. They had clipped their light to their belt where it hung in what would have been a good position to be seen. And then put their jacket on over the top.

    D'oh.

A few years back I saw a few instances of people creaking along Melville Drive with lights illuminating their rear brake, the top of their back wheel and the area inside the long black coat when such coats popped briefly back into student-fashion.

I occasionally pop a broken-clipped rear blinker in a rucsac pocket beneath the fluoro rain cover for a diffused effect when it's raining but only in conjunction with two other uncovered rear lights.

I seen (barely) a lass last week with a blinker on her seat post unfortunately her mudguard almost completely obscured the light the rest of it was dealt with by her courier bag.

Ah yes, see quite a few long coats obscuring tail lights on Melville Drive. Also there was a girl coming out of South Gyle Broadway in the pouring rain a few weeks back who I thought was one of the sans lumieres until as I passed I saw she had one of those flare light-stick things hanging down from her rucksack. I'm not sure if it was low on batteries, but it did a mightily ineffective job.

  5. Those odd really low power greenish front lights are astonishingly poor. And yes, I've come up behind a few cyclists who I thought had no lights on, only to find they had a truly awful tiny LED on the back there.

Most mornings just by the chimney sweeps shop I pass an oncoming commuter who has the borg yellow jacket but whose only (feeble) illumination appears to be a small lightstick clipped to his rucksack strap.
Might as well not bother :-/

I saw someone with a white Knog on the back of her hat this morning. I mentioned that it wasn't a great idea, not illegal but possibly not too smart.

She was stopped with her chain on the small sprocket so I knew I would beat her away from the lights. Didn't see her again.

Came up behind a woman I thought had no rear light on the way home this evening. When I stopped behind her at traffic lights I could see she had a light stuffed in to the netting of her bag which was bungeed on to her pannier. Might have been okay except that the light was pointing forwards and not back..

I've seen someone with a red light front and rear. It kinda confused me as I was approaching them in the other direction.
