I was shattered last night so couldn't come and up the token woman component.

Some thing didn't agree with me last night, I've been sick as a parrot all day today. Hoping some pizza will sort me out.

    @steveo

    Hmmm.

I noticed my last pint (Joker IPA) tasted very sweet. This morning I thought about it, and remembered that I'd had a shandy poured for someone else before that, of which quite a lot went into the drip tray. I wonder if they were feeding the drip trays back into the pints later on?

    Hope you recover soon.

Sorry to hear that Steveo, something in the Sharp Pilsener?

I homed in on the Hefe Weiss after a few trial and errors and was none too worse for it the next day.

Cycled most of the way home with Klaxon as we compared B&M dynamo lights and the nippy acceleration of an 8-speed paper bike. Princes Street was an interesting race with 2 impatient taxis. They lost.

I was slightly taken aback by the £18 asked for 4 pints (none of which were anything fancy) in Akva, I don't recall it being that pricey! Happy to go to somewhere more economical next time round.

I'm a fan of bottles. No luck of whether the lines and taps are clean or how far the gas injector is turned up. Even bars with the most mundane draft selection seem to have a couple of decent bottles in the fridge these days.

    Fun ride back :)

Dang I missed this. Should have been made a Farcebook event... or at least the first post updated with info.

Don't worry, unhurt is arranging an Xmas night out where the beer is cheaper than £4.50 a pint and doesn't poison you allegedly by coming from the drip tray. Unhurt has to finish treading water first.

If we get to vote I would like to vote for diggers

Not once, even in the divest of dive bars, have I ever seen beer served from a drip tray, unless it was asked for.

It's also technically not possible with pressurised lines coming up from sealed kegs.

    Nozzles can be dirty though.

And the Bow Bar, and The Cumberland, and the Café Royal, and Kay's Bar, but then that would be the best 15 wouldn't it.

@ih, shhh about Kay's it is too small for more punters. Cafe Royal is in the original list but yes we are up to 14 now

14 world class boozers all within walking distance of each other

So, which would you pick for "The Best of Edinburgh" pub crawl (14 is too many for me!)? I do like a good pub crawl but my knowledge of Edinburgh pubs is quite limited.

    Indeed!

Golden Rule is pretty nice but lacks cycle parking.

Been disappointed with the beer in the Cafe Royal last twice.

List missed out Cloisters too - a lovely wee pub with copious well kept beers.

@lorlane, start at diggers, walk to Kay's (tell no one) walk to Cumberland then up to cafe Royal.

If you want you can squeeze the Oxford in between Kay's and the Cumberland.

also skip out The Canny Mans's; horrible atmosphere with it's "house rules", and rude staff. Don't mind the rules as such, but the signs proclaiming them aren't exactly welcoming and other good pubs don't seem to need them.

Might be a love it or hate it kinda place.

    Not forgetting the dusty decor.

@gembo - give it a codename to reduce chance of attracting undue attention? The Apron? Rab Syak?

Pub crawl all set for tomorrow (today?). We are going to start in town (Cafe Royal) and work our way back to The Diggers since it's in a homeward direction - following @gembo's list.
Only one person had heard of the (unmentionable).

@ lorlane, the unmentionable can sometimes be quite hard to find. If strvaiging from the Cumberland you can actually walk through the sheltered housing of Jamaica Mews, this is allowed

    Enjoy
