I think it would be verging on rudeness for CCE not to enter a team of leading eccentrics in next year's Pentlands event.

There was a tandem in the inaugural Pentlands Classic race (circa 1992).

This is something we should be doing though.

Disclosure; As a hill runner I did once attempt orienteering. In a classic error of scale I'd run completely off the map by the time I'd even warmed up. The task became finding the start point again rather than finding control points.

the rules were interesting - a short loop around lymphoy and water of leith and a longer loop out west but if it was too long you could just come back

Tandem... pah! Saturday's race was attended by the regular MTB unicyclist.

And tandems not that uncommon. Neither are cross bikes. The trick can be to match the cycle design to the likely course. Sometimes there's lots on road - sometimes hardly any - and on one memorable occasion an ability not to fall off on sheet ice seemed to be an advantage (I still remember the bruise).

There was a tandem on Saturday, maybe not in the competition?
