"When this baby hits 88 miles an hour, you're gonna see some serious stuff."

In today's Human Power Speed Record runs in Nevada, Todd Reichert of Team Aerovelo broke the world record in Eta, reaching 88.26 mph!

This is what it sounded like:

Legs and wind permitting, Todd can probably take it up to 90.

Legs and the jet engine you can hear as it thunders past - clearly a case of mechanical doping!

Amazing achievement, and does demonstrate that road noise at higher speeds is due to the tyres and forcing air out of the way rather than the engine.

Is 100 mph possible? It's been in the 80s since 2001, so 90 seemed out of reach, but this vehicle and rider seem to be capable of it indeed. How much more can be achieved?

Has he got a playing card in the spokes? What a racket. What a speed.

Team Aerovelo's ETA got very close to 90mph. 89.9mph something on a final run. Arellcat may have link. Pretty amazing leap after many years with small increments.

Is 100mph possible? Mr Obree thought it was but admits there is a lot more to it than he first thought (as documented in his recent film which we enjoyed seeing at Filmhouse).
