I went with a very light racing cape of a nylon polyamide feel with lots of vents, taped seams, claiming to be waterproof material,no information on whether it is treated with a water repellent proofing. £29.99 taped seams and the drawstring for the side pocket for a phone and to fold the jacket into, weighed more than the jacket.
Guy in shop was fairly useless on advice front. claims to be waterproof but has weight of a pair of ladies (or gentlemens) tights or pantyhose. Actually purchased before my vulpine refund which I hope to have soon. I received an answer on this front when threatened them mildly with lawyers. They were apologetic if hopeless. I declined to take the cap as I will be reducing the amount of free advertising I give them.
Anyway, I should have asked here first about the decathlon jacket, anyone any experience? Adding to my accepted wisdom about waterproofs, the decathlon guy opined that the breathability of goretex only kicks in at a certain temperature by which time he was already sweating, which if true would be the same for me. I find all material except goretex has a water repellent treatment which when it wears off you can reproof to a degree. Decathlon guy claimed eVent fabric was also membrane waterproof but the products I have seen with that all seemed to have the water repellent proofing too??.
The last cape I had was endura helium which was dear, came in a wee bag which I have now lost which is a shame as I think the bag delays the water repellent treatment wearing out. Patagonia is the brand made specifically for reproofing? They don.'t do cycling jackets? 7 mesh use Goretex. They are supposed to be the best but extortionate
Also in decathlon, two rain capes to go over the bike which I think is the future when I am old and on a sit up and beg as will be both waterproof and ventilated. £12.99 for all that nylon a definite decathlon bargain
