Far enough away from the road that it won't be automatically blocked by parked cars unless they've made a real effort. Likely to be slightly parked on at the wee road down to the water. Needs to be a bit wider on the curve beside the wall, as currently the curved bit looks narrower than the straight bit. Otherwise good; often go that way, often get endangered by moving vehicles forgetting that the parked ones are not my fault.

    Looks good.

    I suggest three improvements.

    1. The shared path side road crossing at Granton Square should be designed to give unambiguous priority to bikes and pedestrians, similar to the treatment at side roads on the St Leonard's St track.
    2. Couldn't a bridge be thrown over the little road down to the sea and keep the path high? The old track bed and bridge piers are still there.
    3. I'm not keen on the 0.5 metre hatching against the wall. I prefer as few markings as possible, and I can't see the necessity of this hatching.

It looks as though the existing path lighting will have to be replaced to get the 4 metre path width. This isn't specified on the plans but subdued lower level lights would be good to give a darker night sky.

Will this not clash with the tram line (if it ever makes it this far)?

I'd think that the hatching was to discourage people from cycling too close to the wall that is too low. I don't commute that way any more but I always really hated that wall as it just felt dangerously low and like I'd fall over it if the wind blew too hard at the wrong moment.

The hatching is just redundant as if the path is wide enough (which it is proposed to be) people won't need to ride next to the wall where it's uncomfortable.

....and if you're too close to the wall, you see the wall, you don't look down and see redundant hatching and think, "oh, hatching, that must mean I'm too close to the wall."

This appears to have reopened. Maybe the same problem with recovering responses as the Roseburn Park one?

What was the Roseburn Park problem?

    They didn't record the responses:

    Oh, that's... well... no words

Replied again in the spirit of my previous response:

    1) Requesting the crossing at Lochinvar Rd pulled back away from the junction a bit, with a zebratoucan
    2) Requested the removal of the unsightly hatching or the use of a different surface dressing instead of painted lines.

Oh well, I never got around to responding to the original, so now's my chance! :-)

    Changes to be included:
 We shall remove the 0.5m hatched area between the wall and the path.
 At Lochnivar Drive we shall remove the left turn carriageway and tighten the corner radii. This will slow vehicles speeds and make using the crossing safer and easier.
 We change the raised table across the entrance to Wardie Beach to a continuous footway. This will increase pedestrian and cycle priority and ease of use. The continuous footway shall have parking restrictions to prevent it being blocked.
 We shall include additional bike parking at the entrance to Wardie Bay Beach and Granton Square.
 Benches shall be included at regular intervals along the route.

Does any or all of that represent and satisfy the views of anyone on here who commented?

The changes are good. The ugly hatching paint is gone, shame not to be replaced by a coloured surface - I do see the value in a 'wall standing zone'. The conversion of the breakwater to continuous footway is a big and appropriate change.

Bit sad the Lochinvar Drive crossing is still directly at the junction and not set back at all, but the narrowing is good.

Shoutouts to survey respondent 22 who replied 'Neither support or oppose - I have not seen the designs'

Yesterday, I cycled east along Lower Granton Rd with mini-edd1e_h on the taggy.

Where the current cycle path ends, I continued on the grass, thinking I was clever.

Then I discovered a quite nasty trap (for those on unliftable bikes) at the Eastern Breakwater entrance - a stone wall about a foot high blocking your 'escape' back to the road.

Also discovered the roundabout at Granton Sq. is very nasty.

Please ignore the new topic that I started and continue with this one. Have copied the info to here.

There was a consultation last year that had general support, but it now seems to be getting some opposition from locals.

Any locals on this Forum that can find out what's happening and maybe go along to a Public Meeting next week - 7th March?

This Tweet for Wardie Bay Beach:
Dear All, please attend this meeting of local groups including @WardieBay residents. e.g. @grantoncastle @SpokesLothian @granton_hub. The environmental benefits of this plan are not yet clear & input is called for. #joinedupthinking #community #publicrealm #activetravel

Spokes not been involved as yet and I may not be able to attend.

Their concern seems to be that the proposals don't match up to the 2008 design principles for the Waterfront.

Previously someone was tweeting that it would need to be dug up when the tram comes - but it's beyond extent of current tram plans.

It's due to have 2nd stage design, consultation and TROs done this year (2017/18). I've dropped Martyn Lings in the Active Travel team an email.

I went along to the Granton and District Community Council Public Meeting on 7th March.
A video of the proceedings is on their Facebook Page
Seems to have been some social media fuss over nothing.
Tom Haddock from the Active Travel Team gave an overview of the proposed route and the consultation and covered concerns that were being raised re:
    - scope of the scheme - only funded specifically for walking and cycling safety improvements. Not to take forward the Sustrans Neighbourhood project or specifically as part of the Promenade project. Some of the locals were calling for traffic calming/reduction/limitations and for re-architecting the whole area.
    - spoil will not be dumped but could be used for landscaping or utilised off-site.
    - project is working with environmental groups re the "special" status of the area
    - some landscaping options and benches etc
Attendees largely supportive of making the area safer for cycling and adding crossing facilities.
A separate project (under way?) to improved Granton Square.
    Regards,
    Martin

Wardie Bay Residents Assn gunning for something bigger:

    http://nen.press/2018/03/13/granton-plans-not-good-enough-say-wardie-bay-residents/

[and trying to kibosh the existing cycling plans :-( ]

Our greatest concern is that by its location the cycleway would prevent the long-standing aspiration to re-align Lower Granton Road in order to provide proper pavements widths, a car parking strip (for residents , visitors, and deliveries) as well as sufficient carriageway width for two vehicles to pass safely.

So basically, they want the road widened.

    re-align Lower Granton Road

Do you know what exactly they mean by this?

I don't know the area, but looking at a map/Google Street View, the only place I can see that the road could be "re-aligned" is at the eastern end, to remove the wee bend before it becomes Trinity Crescent. But that doesn't seem worth the effort...

    re-align Lower Granton Road

I think they want to build it out into the sea, or at least build it on top of the (what they consider to be) unnecessary planned cycle path.
