I finally snapped at the lack of action in scraping back the undergrowth on Maybury Rd despite my & others contacting CEC. I got my spade out and had a go.

Not perfect but better than nothing and probably quicker than continuing to badger the Council.

Nice bit of spade work and I thought I was doing well removing detritus on pavement between my house and my neighbour's which was paltry in comparison

2 hours for a soft office worker like me to clear 200m of path. It was a bit like rolling up old carpet.

Was quite therapeutic to do manual labour for a change although I did get a blister and snapped my snow shovel :(

Magnificent work @HankChief. Is that truly cycling infra on Maybury Road?

Thanks again. I did think you seemed to be using a rather small shovel. Let me know if you're ever doing something similar again and I'll try to be free.

ih sadly not cycling infra yet. It should be though as I've said often enough before. Don't forget to comment on the West Craigs development if you think anyone building 1400 houses in the fields next door should be paying.

AC - it was a spur of term moment thinot rather than premeditated or I would have asked for help.

The spade was bit small but when I got ambitious and used my snow shovel I snapped it.

Many thanks @HankChief, had time to inspect last night and this morning. Sunday night/Monday morning's heavy rain gave the path a wash and apart from the rolled up turf, you wouldn't have known there had been growth there.

Great effort and much appreciated. Thanks

If car owners can charge the council for the cost of a pothole puncture can you charge them for the cost of a shovel? They can't say they didn't know about the verge.

A large section of the East footway on Maybury Road has been scraped back to uncover the full width. From the roundabout North to the first chicane.

They have done a proper job too.

Tweet with pictures asking for them to do the rest

Took my hedge clippers down to the Shawfair-Roslin path, planning to attack an overgrown bush. Got there and discovered that someone else had already done it, as well as cutting back a lot of other vegetation that I wouldn't have done. I presume either the council or Sustrans did it, since the clippings seem to have been taken away as well, but extra thanks if it was anyone here.

Warning includes I am not opposed to Safer Spaces, Just the Ones in East Craigs.

    Still good for them

    A. In doing the work

    And

    B. In Crowbarring their long running dispute into the Safer Spaces critique

“Transport and environment convener councillor Lesley Macinnes said that she welcomed the efforts by the community and commends the various groups across the city who maintain their neighbourhoods.”

That’s all fine and good, but does this signify that CEC has given up on (some) basic maintenance responsibilities?

Presume these locals didn’t ask for permission(?) so is Cllr M. sanctioning similar path improving activities? (Asking for friends.)

    Also

How about similar activities on non-council land? (Asking for different friends...)

@chdot says long running dispute so not like they have given up More like never accepted responsibility?

There is the 79 year old chap whose mission is to cut back growth on pavements council have abandoned (not used enough? THe chap who does this is a legend and is ensuring that at least when they Are used, they are safer)
