Just in case anyone hasn't heard The Bike Station has suffered as serious fire and the main building is currently boarded up.

However, the staff and volunteers have been working vary hard to get things up and running again, and The Bike Station will be re-opening for business at 10:00 on Tuesday 1st November (next week) from the warehouse at 244 Causewayside (that is two doors up from the main building). Please drop by to show your support if you can.

The other thread is closed, so I will carry on here.

@acsimpson there will be a donate button on the website very soon.

@gembo they were give refurbished laptops by Tesco Bank (credit where it is due), however, in a warehouse without a phone line access to the internet has been problematic. However, they are currently back on line due to a loan of a number of iPhones from Uber (again credit where it is due). Hence the slowness at getting the donate button on the website.

The Bike Station is insured but, unfortunately not as well insured as it could have been (it is easy to be wise after the event) so any help or donations will be very welcome.

    Back in business today -

Space limited - bike sales and staff workshop at front of the existing bike storage warehouse. Main BS building still sealed off, won't reopen until next year.

No DIY or training sessions at the moment.

The Bike Station staff are working hard to get a full service up and running again. There is some progress with new training workshops being built inside the warehouse. Please support them in any way you can.

Just a reminder that the Bike Station is running a Crowdedfunding campaign to help it survive the winter after the devastating fire, please tell everyone you know.

The retail space has been expanded in the old warehouse unit and there's a full flock of bikes out for sale, including a rather funky Orange 'commuter MTB'.

Down in the old shop, the heavy lifting has begun with staff starting to salvage stock and triage the debris for scrap prior to gutting, re-roofing and refurbishment.

If anyone has a friend or family member making a New Year's resolution to get fit....maybe point them to Causewayside as the first step?

    Manager Steve Hynd, 47, said...

So Mr Hynd, just one last question before we go to press with the article about your place of work burning down. Just how old are you?

I assume they are just trying to personalise it. By giving him an age they are confirming that he is a person just like the reader.

Perhaps if all drivers were made to consider the ages of those around them they would remember that they are people too and respect them a little more.

Although this is in the EEN so more likely it was in the press release.

Just as well Steve Hynd has taken to vaping you can't trust him with matches...

And no, Steve's age was not in the press release, surprisingly little of the press release was copied and pasted into that article. I didn't know how old Steve was until I read this...

Anyone going for the grand re-opening at 11:00 on Tuesday?

Inside leg measurement would have covered that.

To finish this thread off, confirmation that a gentleman is currently in prison for twenty one months, having pleaded guilty to breaking into the Bike Station's retail premises at Edinburgh sheriff court. He denied setting the fire that started while he and his unknown friend were in the shop and the Crown accepted that.

Huginn and Muninn will perhaps be circling Saughton while looking askance at that Crown. I hope so anyway.

Luckily, Inciting Ravens isn't a criminal offence in Scotland.

IWRATS you are charged that on or around the sixteenth day of October in the year of our Lord 2017 in a retro-themed internet cubby-hole you did incite one or several supernatural corvids to cast a scathing and beady eye on the Crown, that eternal representation of glorious Britannic majesty. How do you plead?

IWRATS: you may be under investigation for witchcraft, but I award you seven Internet Points for the above pair of posts.

May they keep you warm in the ducking pond.

The perils of having a mole as your familiar. Makes you quite easy to identify.

P.S. There may be various options available to the criminalised magick user.
