The blueprint is made up of five separate action plans on active travel, public transport, parking, air quality and road safety and an overarching “circulation plan”. The air quality and road safety plans have already been approved and the other three will be submitted to the transport committee for endorsement next Thursday (February 2). A three-month consultation on all five action plans will then begin from March, including stakeholder workshops, an online questionnaire and public drop-in events.

Closing soon, consultation on new 20mph limits on some country roads around South Queensferry.

Of interest here this includes the road with the A90 cycle route East of Dalmeny, and the backroad sw of queensferry past the stables towards winchburgh and newton, about to be a rat run fed by a motorway.

    Please contribute!

Can't possibly imagine that this won't be abused. I mean everyone can be a carer, can't they?

Granton Waterfront Parking Implementation Strategy - delivering a low car neighbourhood

The sustainable development of the Granton Waterfront in north-west Edinburgh is at the heart of the City of Edinburgh Council’s ambition to be a leading city for connected, sustainable, affordable, and inclusive living. Over the next 10-15 years, around 3,500 new net-zero homes, space for new business, cultural venues, a new school, medical centre, and coastal park will be delivered. This development aims to be the blueprint project for Scotland in sustainable urban development and regeneration.

The regeneration of Granton Waterfront provides a unique opportunity for Scotland’s capital city to set the standard for sustainable growth, marking a stepped change in how development can influence how we go about our daily lives by encouraging and enabling people to travel via healthier, sustainable means.

One of the all-time stupid policy documents. It is based around a great policy - only 25% of homes will have a car parking space. The aim being to create a "low car neighbourhood". This is good.

It then goes and totally ruins this by requiring all those parking spaces to be on-street. So the streetscape and roads of this "low car neighbourhood" will be dominated by parked cars. The effect being that this "low car neighbourhood" will feel exactly like a high car neighbourhood.

Why not learn from Vauban in Freiburg - a true low car neighbourhood, where cars are parked in multi-storey car parks at the edge of the neighbourhood and everyone walks, cycles or uses the tram or buses that serve the main routes.

I'm a little alarmed about the Cllr Lang and Munro motions at Transport and Environment Committee this week, which are aiming to take the Greenback to Meadows Quiet Route, Lanark Road, etc out of the ETRO process. You can read at the bottom of https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=136&MId=6731

I agree the consultation process has been a shambles, they appear to be restarting the whole process again due to errors in the submission, but this seems like it can only be a way to reduce these schemes and delay them being made permanent.

@pringlis - thanks for highlighting this.

Let's be clear - removing these schemes from the ETRO process would see them dismantled and the old road layout reinstated. Once that happens can you imagine them being put in place again any time soon?

I genuinely despise what these people are trying to do. The Greenbank-Meadows quiet route makes active travel not just possible, but attractive for hundreds of families with children at local schools. Makes cycling at weekends possible for youngsters and has simply made the area a nicer place to be.

I'll leave it there - my next paragraph was simply a stream of rule 2 violations.

The Tories want removal, and the Lib Dems want standalone ETROs. There is merit in what the Lib-Dems are saying... but it needs to be clarified a little.

@Stickman - thanks. Unfortunately, that is meaningless waffle. ETROs provide the legal basis for the current infrastructure. Cancel the ETROs and the infrastructure has no legal basis.

I don't think the Council could realistically maintain an ETRO (which is effectively a statutory consultation) and simultaneously consult on alternative proposals that would supersede that ETRO. I could be wrong here, it's a new legislative process. However, simultaneously running two consultations with different proposals for the same stretch of road is the sort of thing that could probably be challenged at judicial review - it has "irrational" written all over it.

There are now both Green and Labour amendments that make the motions a little more sensible. I prefer the Green one but anticipate that the Labour one may end up being adopted. Main issue with the Labour one is that it still splits them to separate ETROs which I thought was legally iffy, but there is an explicit like about not making changes the schemes in the interim.

Is there any reason why the SNP, Greens and Labour could not just vote down the Tory and Lib Dem motions? They have the numbers. Why the need for amendments?

This sums things up well -

I am so so tired. The amount of effort that has to go into CONSTANTLY defending the most basic and common sense interventions. Hundreds of families at the school, hundreds more like us from other schools that use the route in favour yet it never stops. Honestly I could cry.

You mean apart from PARTY politics??

@chdot - wise words, as usual. The people of Edinburgh overwhelmingly voted for broadly progressive, left leaning parties which were in favour of active travel investment. How have we ended up with this steaming Richard the Third of an administration? They seem happy to chip away at the meagre gains made over the last few years, in the vain hope of appealing to a few gammons who will never vote for them.

It's great that we have people willing to make representations to council committees. The fact is - they should not have to do so. They are literally arguing for the Council to implement its own policies. Policies aimed at tackling climate change, air pollution, inactivity, obesity and so on.

Of course this is party politicking too, (perhaps personal as well…), but without her a lot of stuff wouldn’t have been in place so must be hard to have to watch all this.

On Clean Air Day EdinTory/ Lib Dem cllrs are proposing to remove key elements of improved cycling infrastructure. My @EdinburghSNP & Green colleagues are opposing these v neg attempts. Telling if Labour’s @CllrScottArthur has the political will to vote against his admin partners

    @CllrScottArthur amendment...
He says it must be acknowledged there are serious South Ed problems, e.g. the connection from #ComistonRoad to the #QuietRoute, which has bad junction and rat-running, so significant consultation needed

    https://twitter.com/spokeslothian/status/1669371537802010624

    #edinwebcast

    #TravellingSafely #ETRO schemes

    Result:

    1. Con amendt dropped
    2. LibDem motion amended by Labour addendum
    3. Passes 6-5

    This means:
No schemes will change meantime, but the following will have individual ETRO consultations..
