    The one that gets me is the pavement parking one. It's been illegal to park on the pavement for 4 years but with zero enforcement the problem has got worse.

    I suggested bollards. Thousands of them. Big concrete blocks would do, for speed. Replace them with the usual CEC craft-built hand-turned bollard later.

    @wishicouldgofaster - a reasonable assumption, given that a prohibition on pavement parking is set out in the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019. Unfortunately, the prohibition didn't come into force when the Act came into effect. It needs another (very minor) bit of legislation, known as a commencement order, for it to come to life. This hasn't happened yet. A commencement order can only be made by Scottish Ministers.

    To further complicate matters, before the commencement order can be made, a whole host of Regulations, Orders and guidance needs to be developed and approved. These are necessary as the Act only included the barest bones of an actual legally enforceable prohibition. This development work has been ongoing for some time.

    The Scottish Government says the prohibition should come into force later this year. I suppose it's possible, but may well slip into next year.

    Of course, there has been a serious change in the political wind since 2019. Pro-road voices seem to be on the up in Scotland - see the hoo-ha about A9 and A96 dualling. While it is unlikely, it is certainly possible that the prohibition could be kicked into the long grass.

    While a bridge across the Strait of Messina had been proposed since ancient times, the first detailed plan was made in the 1990s for a suspension bridge. The project was cancelled in 2006, under Prime Minister Romano Prodi.[4] However, on 6 March 2009, as part of a massive new public works programme, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's government announced that construction of the Messina Bridge would indeed go ahead, pledging €1.3 billion as a contribution to the bridge's total cost, estimated at €6.1 billion.[5] The project was cancelled again on 26 February 2013, by Prime Minister Mario Monti's government due to budget constraints.[6] A decade later, the project was revived again with a decree by Giorgia Meloni's government on 16 March 2023,[7] which received presidential approval on 31 March 2023.

    In a way, I'm sort of relieved to hear that I'm far from being the only person suffering from consultation fatigue now (and I said as much in the weekend's whatever-that-last-consultation-was response [there's just too many, and they all sort of overlap], that much of what is proposed has been general Council policy for some time and many schemes have been consulted on several times over far too many years, so JFDI already (in Rule 2 compliant wording, of course)).

    A long time ago, in a former existence, I used to read through these sort of plans and guidance from cover to cover, and play a big part in composing detailed responses on behalf of my then-local cycle campaign; nowadays ticking the boxes and maybe adding a few brief comments at the end is barely all I have energy for… :-(

    I suppose even my limited current inputs do count towards votes in favour where it matters (I wonder to what extent the officials and Councillors read and absorb the comments in the responses, or if they also mainly just count the more easily quantifiable tickbox responses?), but I have to say that I am more grateful than ever to those in Spokes who do have the time and energy to give these - now relentless - consultations the more involved effort that is needed. Chapeau!

    A consultation has been launched on plans to remove a ‘chaotic’ Glasgow roundabout which has been the site of at least 46 accidents.

    The council are considering taking away the Pollok roundabout and putting in a traffic light controlled junction instead where Peat Road meets Barrhead Road.

    There have been two fatal incidents there in the last ten years.

    Does anyone know if there's a minimum age for filling in the consultations? I note it says "Audiences - Anyone from any background". I'm thinking of filling it out with my children, as they're as heavy users as anyone as they use the route to and from school. Would it be possible for e.g. children at Gillespies, Canaan Lane, St Peters, and South Morningside to be encouraged to fill it in?

    "Greenbank to Meadows"

    What are peoples thoughts on the three options?
    I like the additional uni-directional road closures in Option 1, and the segregated cycleways in Option 2 potentially sound good (may depend on implementation of course).

    I don't like the look of the 180 degree change to the modal filter in these options as I think it will result in traffic cutting off the corner between Cluny Gardens and Cominston road (in one direction for Option 1 and two directions for Option 2).

    The segregated cycle lanes should go on the main roads, like Morningside Rd. It's absurd to spend millions and decades on segregated cycle lanes for residential streets, all to enable more rat-running. And the much wider benefits of an LTN are lost.

    Segregated cycle lanes on residential streets also set an unsustainable precedent - once you have them on Braid Ave, every other residential street in the city will be calling for them! Segregated cycle lanes on every street would cost the council billions and take centuries to build. And it diverts resources from building them where they need to be - ON THE MAIN ROADS!

    Can you imagine the cries of social injustice when they spend millions on one of the most affluent areas in the city on something to enable already affluent drivers to speed through neighbourhoods?

    It's a shocking waste of public money to spend millions putting segregated cycle lanes onto short residential streets to enable more car driving. It's absolutely absurd, Tory level antics. If there was any justice Scotgov / Transport Scotland / etc. would step in immediately to make clear that they won't provide funding and let the council either use best-practice road filters or not.

    I'm absolutely with @neddie on this one. The whole point of an LTN or quiet route is that it doesn't need expensive infrastructure. It should be pleasant and safe to cycle as there is very little traffic.

    The Greenbank-Meadows scheme doesn't need any changes, other than sorting the meat grinder at the Braid Road/Braidburn Terrace junction.

    Just remember, all of the proposed changes are solely for the benefit of motorists. Additionally, budget spent here is cycling cash not being spent where it is are actually needed.

    The removal of the filters won't even benefit motorists, as that will make congestion worse (or at minimum, the same) by encouraging more driving.

    Also, good way for the council to sow confusion in the consultation - Option 2 is the most ambitious option for the Whitehouse Loan scheme, whereas option 1 is the most ambitious for the Braid estate.

    You can just imagine the confused Nextdoor / Whatsapp / FB / Twitter threads that will ensue as people lose context of which scheme was actually being talked about...

    Proposing to re-open Whitehouse Loan because some motorists are driving on the pavement along Clinton Road is simply bonkers. Is this really a problem? If it is, why is it not a police matter? Or why not install bollards?

    Or is the administration's preferred "solution" to everything really just "rip out the walking and cycling stuff!"

    The Clinton Rd residents, who all live in gated communities behind 12-foot-high stone walls, have complained about HGVs driving along the pavement to get past oncoming and parked cars. Which to be fair is a genuine safety issue for kids walking there.

    What the HGVs are doing there in the first place is anyone's guess pretty easy to figure out. And we all know that driver behaviour gets more appalling and more entitled, year on year

    That's a good submission from Spokes - it really highlights how unambitious the plans are and shows the council literally repeating the mistakes of the past, aka: no "sticks" for motors
