You may have noticed that I've removed "FRESHNESS" and replaced it with "LATEST POST"

    - about time too, it was months before I realised that clicking the time opened the page at the last post...

Got me wondering about other things -

Are "MAIN THEMES" and "TOPIC" the 'best' words?

ALSO any suggestions for right sidebar links?

Anything else? (No tag clouds or avatars please.)

The MAIN THEMES are really CATEGORIES, whereas the actual main themes would be 'cycling-impinging news from the internet', 'oh, the powers that be have forgotten cycles again', 'why can't we all just get along?' and so on. TOPIC should really be called INITIAL TOPIC to be strictly correct but would then also require VIA TOPICS and EVENTUAL TOPIC if a new thread isn't started when it gets tangential.

Is there any way of getting 'related posts' or 'linked topics' into the right-hand panel, for use when chasing threads down through their branches and confluences?

"The MAIN THEMES are really CATEGORIES"

Yes, I think one is almost 'pompous' but the other too 'modest'

    "
    'related posts' or 'linked topics'
    "

Not quite sure what you have in mind - would they not a) be subjective and b) have to be done manually?

If you click the initial word(s) on MAIN THEMES there ought to be related things, but not everyone puts topics in the 'correct' category (maybe you're right there...) and I've stopped checking.

    How about "gist"?

  6. How about 'Hub' instead of Main Themes, and 'Spokes' instead of Topic... ;)

"How about 'Hub' instead of Main Themes, and 'Spokes' instead of Topic"

    Too clever, and potentially confusing.

    Frame and ?

I always thought of MAIN THEMES as subjects (or pigeon holes), and DISCUSSIONS as threads. Perhaps subject is a wee bit too specific a term; theme springs to mind. :-)

In terms of usability, could this central column of the forum be made a bit wider? Currently it seems to chop off the right-hand edge of video clips, photographs and...well mostly those two. I quite like the various ways in which we quote each other, using the official forum tags or otherwise.

I also quite like (as though it's CCE's 'identity' now) the simple decor. And anything is better than the changes that Cycling Scotland made to its forum!

    Yes...

Played around with css, but I don't know what the grey area behind the right sidebar is called so it's a bit messy (until someone PMs me with a suggestion/answer).

Middle looks wider now to me.

Cyclingmollie has PMed me the probable solution.

Will investigate later, meanwhile it will have that ragged edge.

    Sorted - so simple.

(But Cyclingmollie did most of it.)

Me being my usual pedantic self, should it not read "tweaks" and not "tweeks"? Sorry!

Not the young things then, that might be more interested in South Park? Tweets, tweaks and twitters! Or is it twick or tweet. I'll shut up now!
