Ha I never came across this thread first (or second) tme round. I cycle through the tunnel a couple of months ago and was disturbed to see a barrier across. The last time I cycled through must have been in the late 1990's early 2000's... I don't recall any chalk lines though they're may have been I wasn't looking out for them.

I'd have to do this on My Dawes Galaxy (with rack) as its the heaviest bike I own.

Would be interesting to try all tucked in on tri-bars and with the pointy hat on. Should in theory have very low air resistance.

I have not a clue as to whether weight or aerodynamics will give the best result but I think a downhill always trumps a headwind. So my money's on Dave Crampton :)

Right, that's fighting talk - I'll pump up the Pino tyres and grab the heaviest stoker I can tonight...

Amir, I think you're right - one of the cantilever framed ones.

Been out with daughter, and laid down the gauntlet (in blue chalk on the wall and ground).

Not an ideal run, as some pedestrians meant a touch of the brakes was required, but there was a light tail wind.

@chdot - couldn't see your mark, so don't know if we bested you!

Yes four am - even the drunks are mostly off the street then, this is a 24 hour city, we could go for coffee and breakfast at any supermarket

About the same on a laden LHT with 28s as on a laden Revolution Continental with 23s.

Thanks for reviving this thread - and reminding people of the 'bar' (where there used to be a footbridge).

Shame we can no longer begin/end an 'event' at the Engine Shed.

    Old old thread revival.

Those were the CEC (g)olden days.

Did the roll - first time in years - yesterday.

    No record, but close.

I see the side vegetation still not being strimmed.

    Carried on to Porty

    Lots of low branches.

Worst bit probably the ramp down to St. Mark’s Place.

    Overgrown doesn’t quite cover it.

    Full-on neglect.

    Sustrans route too (61).

    Active Travel Capital???

I've cut back on cutting back these days. The verges on donkey lane are meeting in the middle! Have heard anecdotally the canal trimming crew is short staffed

Pedantic, but QuietRoute 61 is a purely CEC thing.

    “Pedantic“

    Not necessarily.

    I assume you are correct.

    So, my mistake.

I just ‘absorbed’ the signage and misassumed.

    SO

If it’s actually an Official CEC route, (with or without help from Sustrans), then the maintenance/care is shocking.

Whatever the arguments about ‘better on road provision’, path networks (and individual paths) are IMPORTANT (not just for ‘cyclists’).

Once again CEC is failing badly.

Yes, “no money”, yes downside of Capital/Revenue split, but PRIORITIES.
