That looked like fun. Fast. It's awful clarty around there, especially at Stagehall.

Yep, the stretch outside the farm is basically a pool of cow poo and mud with some pretty big potholes thrown in for good measure.

A Brompton Toolkit. The one you can hide inside the frame.

A lovely wee waterproof Alpkit bar pouch and a map of NF & Labrador, plus the best friend gave me the second Neu! Reekie! book. (An intentionally low Stuff season: this is good!)

The new fietsclub Balerno jersey. Wee bit tight, need to get out there.
Nearly bought a blue tartan jersey from la passione who are stylish Italian label as was hugely reduced but they then stuck ten euros on delivery which I felt was too much.

A flashing helmet (which I've been using for the last month)
A LEL gillet which is also a bit tight
A wooly hat with bikes on; and
A book of hill climbs in NW EnglandOh and this blog book which reminded me of how broad a church cycling is.

a pair of bone conducting headphones - think I can wear these on my commute without comprising safety.

Only cycling gift I got this year was Velocast mug.

A puncture repair kit from Halfords (no expense spared on this one)

One of these. Took it to Glentress on Thursday and pootled around on the lower green route (it's years since I last MTBed) in the freezing cold for an hour. Fun was had.
@Iain McR: a pair of bone conducting headphones - think I can wear these on my commute without comprising safety.
At least one study suggests otherwise. Your choice, though, since AFAIK there is no UK law specifically forbidding the use of headphones by cyclists, or any other road user come to that. (Speaking solely for myself: I don't feel any need for a soundtrack when I'm riding, running, skiing or even just walking. Other people's preferences may vary.)

My Secret Santa at work was really nice - 2 packets of Miso soup (which I love), a mug with cats on it (I'm a cat lover) and The Cyclist's Guide to Hillclimbs on Scottish Lowland Roads by John H McKendrick. So someone knew my tastes, and though I'll do these climbs slowly, walking the 15% gradient sections, I will try them.

@Iain McR - I had a pair of those for most of this year until I snapped the arm of them in my bag. Brilliant bits of kit and I found them highly useful for commuting/riding/running. Bearing in mind that the majority of sound you're listening out for is going to be things coming from behind you or bells coming from under the bridge ahead, I found I was far more able to hear what was happening than with conventional headphones.
But then I'm a crazy maverick who wears normal headphones on occasion while cycling. I'm surprised I'm still alive. Worth remembering that even an un-adorned ear is no substitute for your eyes and a good shoulder check.
As the study posted by Ejstubbs describes I would agree that it's harder to understand specific things being said to you (but not impossible) while wearing them but that's because you're listening to two things. Let me know what you think of them!

@arobcomp, is that a commute on the towpath you are describing whilst wearing the headphones?

Bike Nation by Peter Walker. Tried to read slowly to make it last. Didn’t work.
Lovely Findra jumper.Posted 6 years ago # -
coasters with bicycles on them. Very nice, but I fear that it's a sign that I've become the person who gets given stuff with bikes on them, a bit like being known for collecting owls.

@sallyhinch - yes, I am haunted with the bicycle motif. All my fault for getting bicycle wallpaper for the sitting room.

I’m getting a chainring (Paul components royal flush), and a chain drawn on the back of my leg in mid Jan. For Xmas but there was no availability before.

...in the sales i was hoping a late Santa gift might be HYRDO drop bar road shifters - but they still seem very expensive!

@gembo I did indeed used to use my bone conducting headphones on the canal. Was able to clearly hear the bells under the bridges so felt it was fine. I tend to listen to podcasts and audiobooks rather than music but even with music I never found I couldn't hear someone coming from the other side of the bridges. Now I am back to normal headphones I tend to have them out for the canal section or not wear any at all.

Street Fight was my only bikey gift. I'll probably get myself a fresh drivetrain in the sales.

Dual post.I got a cycling mug btw.

Rider73. I fancy some of them too but £200 a side last time I looked. :-O

@acsimpson - yeah think i've seen about 149 a corner at the moment -- considering my flat bar commuter can get full hydro brakes for low as 24quid , makes me wonder why the price difference!
I dabbled with cable discs, (shimano version) but constant fettling required and single sided piston + compressionless hoses and sometimes a slack return made them too much hassle :(
I guess there is hydro cable, but even then, they are about 85quid a corner...
pfft just gotta suck it up , stop moaning, and realise its not going to get cheap soon for roady!

I got a beautiful Helyett-Leroux cycle top which looks like a Hibs top. It will be interesting come spring when I commute through Gorgie.
Also a bottle of (eden mill) Hibs Gin and a Wolf Alice (green vinyl) LP and a hardback copy of Memphis 68 (The tragedy of southern soul) by Stuart Cosgrove.
I am very easy to buy for.

After years of just expecting a whole day's riding to end in stabbing pain between my shoulders I crowd-sourced a pair of Jones H-Loop bars as my Solstice gift, bought from the lovely people at Bothy Bikes in Aviemore.
Was passing about half four - they'd turned the till off and were heading out in the dark to camp as it was due to be minus eleven and they wanted to test sleeping bags and tents in proper cold. Did me a hand-written receipt.
PS @Hankchief - Madame IWRATS works with the guy who wrote your book.

@IWRATS, when you say you crowd sourced your present was the crowd all known to you personally? I love it when the parents of Mrs Garto all pool their fivers and give a John Lewis voucher. It is also nice to get thirty different boxes of chocolates, but I prefer the former

@gembo
My charm is legendary but even I would hesitate to actually ask strangers for handlebar money.
I also got a Cuisine Actuelle branded apron and a book by Jean Giono both of which I will lend to you if you promise to be wry on CCE this year? Madame IWRATS met Giono when she was three.

If not wry I will be Fry's Crisp and Dry
