  1. Looks like I am coming up 150 miles short of my annual target, going to have to get some extra riding in to make it up.

I'm on course to get one target of 100000 vertical metres. However, I'm currently 120km behind on my 10000km target, but it's really worse than that as I am not likely to ride my bike after 22nd December, so I'll need to add an extra 250km before then to cover that.

A difficult task, but I'll have fun trying.

@Galaxy - I would suggest extending your commute but as someone with the longest (day in day out) commute that I know already, you'll probably need to work out an alternative plan.

    Good luck.

@ HankChief - late Dec let me know.

I have my upwardly revised annual goal in reach (sub 300km to go), but need to keep 'on it' in order to keep southern based challenger at bay in annual distance challenge.

  5. @HankChief - I'll need 9 miles extra on every commuting day. Could be possible... but other activities and kids taxi will get in the way. Think I'll need to top up at weekends or in the holidays.

How about having a CCE top-up ride some point during the holiday season?

"I plan to ride my first century this year. I've not decided if it will be an event of just a leisure ride yet.

I also plan to teach someone to ride their first 100m. They don't know it yet but being 3.5 and competent on a balance bike means they won't have much choice when the time is right."

I ticked off both my goals earlier in the year but if it isn't too late to add another I'm aiming for 60 bike commutes by the end of the year. That means of the days I have left in the office I can only miss one more bike day before the end of December.

The 100000 vertical metres was achieved last week. I'm going to miss out on my 10000km goal by ~300km - I expect a slightly lower than last year. My own fault for not doing enough May-October...

Realistically the last year I can go for that goal- I have fewer commutes next year, so very frustrating.

I need to get a 100km ride and climb another 4000m to get December's Strava Challenges.

Great work acsimpson - particularly on the second goal.

I've reached my standard distance target but temptingly have just 220 or miles to reach 12,000 km (apologies for mixed metrics but does it matter?). Let's see if the weather and Christmas guests allow this.

  10. 3 days left to complete my main target of commuting by bike every day this year.

Still coming up short by about 170 miles of hitting my 8k miles target.

  12. @HankChief It's a possibility, depends on family plans and obviously the weather.

paddyirish. It's not the best time of year to be trying to add many extra miles to your total. If you have fewer commutes then you'll just have to make each one count for more (although that's easier said than done).

amir, thanks. Although I can never repeat the first achievement I'll be repeating the second one soon.

Deep sigh. I've done the maths, and I need to do 188 extra miles (not counting the ones I'm already committed to because of commuting to work) between now and the end of the year to achieve my mileage target for 2017.

A mega-epic (for me) ride starting on Friday afternoon after work and continuing all night would be sufficient [work to Carnwath on A70. Carnwath to Berwick Upon Tweed via Biggar and A701, Berwick home via Coldingham, Dunbar and North Berwick], but a look at the long range weather forecast for the end of the week suggests that it's going to be frosty, and I'm not mad enough to go on a long overnight ride when there's a risk of ice.

So I'm resignedly at this point going to say 'I'm out', and recognise that I've achieved all the 2017 goals I'm going to.

    Time to start planning 2018...

35 miles left to my revised target seems realistic despite the forecast. Next notch is 44 more miles

blessed are those that set low expectations ... managed my monthly micro-adventure, ending with some culinary as well as geographical exploration

Oops. A bit big. I'll put a smaller pic up once I get to a pc. I got the bbcode link via a free app from Flickr. It only allows one size. I'm not sure whether the paid version does different sizes.

    Which OS/app?

Used to be able to copy the Flickr code on iOS/Safari, but a past iOS update stopped that.

Now use full Flickr website (iPad, no longer seems possible on iPhone) and click through to size I want (500) and copy url.

    Annoying!

I eventually got round to going round the hill on the singlespeed. It wasn't a definite calendrical aim, but I didn't do it during the first year of singlespeed-ownership.

On Android you can't get the BBcode from the app and you can't get the text from the full website through Chrome, so I use Firefox to retrieve the code to paste into CCE on Chrome.

I used the Flickr2BBcode app. The lite version doesn't allow you to change image size. The paid version (£1.59) does. I wouldn't say it's perfect but it seemed to work
