"The entire service bus fleet now has the BusTracker system, and by managing this service daily Lothian Buses can recover the timetable far more quickly should any service disruption occur. This results in a better service for its 350,000 daily passengers across over 50 routes in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and a considerable reduction in disruption costs."

Anything that makes buses more reliable and encourages people to have confidence enough to take a bus rather than their own car is good.

It means fewer cars taking up valuable road space! Also as we know on this forum, LB trains its drivers to be aware of people on bicycles. AND if things go wrong, the company investigates and acts swiftly and efficiently.

If drivers need extra training, they get it.

If only other bus and transport companies were as conscientious.

Absolutely agree with this - the diffference in attitude between Lothian Buses drivers and others (who shall remain nameless) is incredible.

I know the Bus Tracker apps for iPhone and Android have been mentioned before but I'll just use this opportunity to say what fantastic apps they are (just about worth getting an iPhone/Andoid for if you are a frequent bus user).

    Well done LRT

They deserve the award and hope others take note of their use of indicators. (ie they indicate when leaving stop etc)

"hope others take note of their use of indicators"

    Yeah they are usually good.

I still always look in the driver's mirror when I pass a bus. If they are looking towards the farepayer the chance of the bus setting off is reduced!

If you email mail@lothianbuses.com you get -

"Thank you for your email. Our Customer Services Department will attend to your comments and issue you with a full reply, if required. No reply will be given to emails deemed inappropriate or abusive."

    Which seems sensible!

" still always look in the driver's mirror when I pass a bus."

    That's a good tip.

Another good tip is to try and see if the (internal) "Bus Stopping" sign is lit as you approach a bus from behind. That should help with a bit of advance road positioning planning.

I used to notice those - have they moved or is it just second nature?

and yet 'Another good tip' is to try and see how many people are at stop. Of course this only works on less frequent stops with less bus routes.

An even slicker way is to watch the bus's offside wheel rims and nuts! when they start to move you need to move pretty dashed smartly!
