One member of the work bike snob club has trumpeted their arrival, by MTB, but felt it necessary to snidely point out that she'd seen "several people falling off their bikes into snowbanks and they all had skinny tyres on." It must be so difficult for the poor things to choose which bike to take into work sometimes. Despite the temptation to skew her stats again tomorrow I'll probably try the thicker-wheeled wifecycle.

At least the BBC(?) camera person was well prepared for the weather.

Yeah I saw a skinny tyre man give up on Dalry. I had hiking boots on and non clippy pedals, down from Queen St to Dundas I was using the boots as skis in the deep snow.
Put up as many pics as you like folks to keep me amused before the ride/walk/ski home
School closure is going to hit a lot of folk - me included

Not enough snow to plough, and not gritting. What's the point?

    Snowing again.

Got in from Eskbank - on foot. Was going to walk all the way but managed to catch a bus just north of the bypass - none were going into Midlothian - roads are much worse. Good exercise as snow was up to knees - is this cross-training?

Saw one bike south of bypass - a mtb - but struggling a little.

    Published Date: 27 November 2010
SNOW has brought disruption to the Capital with schools closed right across the Lothians and gritters struggling to keep even the main roads cleared.

More snow is forecast for this afternoon and the coming days.

Another fall of snow last night and well over a foot lying here out in the boonies above Falkirk. Decided it wasn't practical/safe to take the car or the MTB and the trains are random so now working from home*.
May become pedestrianised tomorrow ala "Day after tomorrow" :-D

I agree, snow is cool (albeit inconvenient!)
Must fix my Landrover before next winter.... :-o

*ok, that's a fib, staying at home and feeding the birds and wondering how to fix the central heating boiler is more accurate!

    "Fits a rowie?"

We called them rollies further west. Were they nice?

I'd say bike was a resounding failure but my microspikes were a resounding success. Will probably go for pure walking the next few days, will just have to leave really early. It is quite good fun spiking my way through all the snow.

Edinburgh Cooncil obviously didn't get that memo about how in order for salt and grit to be effective, you actually have to spread it on the raods. However, no doubt we'll get a press-release over the next few days marvelling at the wonderful stocks they've got piled up in depots around town and how there's enough left for months to come.

Small amount of predicted snow, systems collapse.

OK not that small for November.

Of course they were! I'm a baker extraordinaire! (it annoys Mel no end, who is a BRILLIANT cook, that when it comes to baking I'm far better - oh, and making pasta, though I tihnk that's just down to having more patience...)

Yip, I tihnk tomorrow at least will be a walk and see how that goes.

"tomorrow at least will be a walk"

Careful now, you might make people think it's possible to walk further than a bus stop. (If they've managed to work that out.)

It's only possible to walk further than a bus stop if you're wearing wellies, by the looks of things.

One of my colleagues apparently waited 1'15" for a bus out of Musselburgh. I advised that he could have walked to the office during that time but he replied that he only had his officey shoes on.

You should have a stall at the bottom of the MMW chute.

I have ordered a pair of these
for my wife initially and may end up ordering more for my mum, sister, mother-in-law and me (I too have seen the Day After Tomorrow).

I've got these snow-chains. The above design looks more practical to be honest :(

Hmmm. Wonder what they're like for muddy/wet/slippygrass hills so that they can be used year-round rather than just during snowland?
I had been vaguely wondering if something like that could be constructed to fit pedal cleats to normal shoes.

I was given some 'stablicers' from a US supplier - assume these are the same thing. Seem to work pretty well so far.

I went to the bus stop today to get a 2 to work. The 2s are supposed to be running. Bustracker said there was one due in 3 minutes. I waited 20 minutes, checked bustracker again - bustracker had crashed. So I walked. I walked the route I usually cycle - Engine Shed to Duddingston Park South via the Innocent. It took me 1 hour 20 minutes but I would have been quicker had I not had a heavy bag to carry which unbalanced me, and I stopped to take a few photos. I was overtaken by a man on skis who looked like all his birthdays had come at once. I was very sweaty by the time I got here!

Was a similarly overjoyed looking man skiing his way across the route of the Broomhouse Road cycle path, which was buried about 8 inches below him.

There was a grumpyish-looking skiing woman heading up Lemington Walk last night. Only one snowboard spotted, being carried along Newington Road.

Plenty of snowboarders and ski-ers on Arthur's Seat yesterday. Including a couple of lads who had carried their toys up to the top of the Lion's Haunch. I asked which way they were planning on going down and they jerked a thumb in the general direction of Duddingston Loch and said "that way".

    I'm afraid there's some really bad news, courtesy of the BBC;

Supermarket Waitrose in Morningside has announced it was to close early, at 1700 GMT.

Get there and stock up on fine cheese, charcuterie and nice olive oil before it's too late!
