One of the guys in my cycling club is starting a new job and is considering commuting there. He's in Dunfermline and knows the route to SQ over the bridge but is looking for pointers as to the best way to get from there to near Ikea in Loanhead. Are there any members on here familiar with the area who can help?

    Many thanks in advance!

Just did Edinburgh to Dunfermline and back today and I've ridden to Ikea plenty of times. Accounting for current road works I would do something like this:

I would maybe ride a route like this, via Ratho and Currie. Cuts out the city centre, A8 etc.

Another alternative would be to follow DrAfternoon's route to Russel Road but then up Harrison Gardens, then Myreside and Craighouse Road, Greenbank Drive, up the A702 over the Bypass and cut down Old Pentland Road (but now having looked at the dog's breakfast of the surfaces on Old Pentland Rd, he could go:

Russell Road, Harrison Gardens, Colinton Road, Strathern road, then right past King's Buildings (Kilgraston Rd - Blackford Ave - W Mains Rd) and then up Mayfiled Rd to pick up Dr Afternoon's route.
