I'm doing a 28 miles each way commute today - that must make up for a few!

56 mph round trip. That's a DaveC type of distance!
Average modern person likes walking in malls and eating regularly. Maybe doing some adventure ride item - but not if it uses their energy.
They will of course own sports clothing and maybe use the bike once a year to remind them why they like cars so much.
No mass media will ever show bikes being used in a way integrated with a normal life (in the UK).

Yay - the woman in a short skirt photo again. Not like The Herald ever got in bother for using that before.

That was a clever bit of press release tweaking from the British Heart Foundation. Based on a survey of adults across the UK, 159 of whom were in Scotland. So it would be hard to deduce anything from a sample size that small, let alone any differences between Glasgow and Edinburgh. All to advertise their London to Brighton Bike Ride, which, in fairness, Scots are likely to be more reluctant to take part in than their English counterparts.
I suppose it fills a newspaper page, and gives them the excuse to run that photo again, so everyone wins

"the average scot has failed to cycle"
Are they suggesting that the average scot TRIED to cycle but was unable to get going?

Indeed, sallyhinch, "BHF Scotland wants to help get people in Scotland back on their bikes, by encouraging everyone to [cycle from] London to Brighton ..."
Yeeeeees, I see.Posted 8 years ago # -
"Scots were among the most reluctant cyclists of anywhere in the UK with figures revealing that one in five have avoided hitting the peddles for more than a decade. "
Love the way they've "pedalled" the story...

Just because there is no evidence supplied to support the above contention, doesn't mean it's not true.
Scottish cycling target won’t be hit for 350 years if current trends continue

Hey, Scots do that London to Brighton ride. I did it three times.
