    Personally I would go a bit Nick Cook on it and not replace the bridge until all drivers start obeying the laws of the road. Imagine how many potholes could be filled in Morningside for the cost of the new bridge.

    More seriously though I think segregating the cycle lane would be a good start. Alternatively It leads to a shared use path so why not have shared use across the bridge too. If there really is so much foot traffic expected across the bridge that it would be an issue then there will be huge problems on the A90 path.

    Doing this would also add a more obvious route for cyclists heading west.

    I like Blueth's suggestion of a stop sign at the end of the southbound slip. Although if public transport really was taking priority over private vehicles then the stop sign would be for traffic coming off the bridge and buses heading up the slip road would not have to stop.

    Part of me is quite amused at a LibDem councillor is outraged a the delay to a transport project given their nonsense over the Roseburn cycle path.

    The new path up to southern side of the A90 has turned out to be a magnet for stick leaf mulch and not getting much sun resulted in it being a sticky/slimy mess which has brought down several riders.

    Have no fear though, on hearing about the falls, the local Active Travel Officer has been out last night and personally cleaned it up. Bravo.

    Good effort but remain cautious as it is still slippy. Front wheel slid out on the first RH turn before the grippy tarmac. Managed to catch before falling but I might need fresh cycling shorts for the journey home!

    Took a slide on that corner this morning, stayed upright but it sent me on to the (minor) road, bit scary!

    Who would you contact about it? Is it realistic to suggest a coating of the red topcoat on that corner?

    Have spoken to a couple of others who have had slips there also.

    That surface does look rather slick for a cycle path in a rural location. I'd have thought it ought to have more stone showing through the top layer.

    Is anyone else finding the signs for the new bridge works frustrating? The workers seem quite happy to just dump them anywhere on the cycle path. I removed one from the west side which had been left lying flat in the path with no attempt to stop folk cycling straight into it. There is also one on the east side which overhangs the path.

    In retrospect it's a bit disappointing the new path wasn't designed with sufficient verge to permit the placement of signs without causing an obstruction. When I went past the other weekend they were mostly on the other side of the crash barriers but overhanged in an unpleasant way, particularly given it can be a speedy descent.

    Works on British roads of all speeds seem to have an obsession with massive signage. It causes a lot of problems in the city too, blocking pavements and cycle paths. Why can't we just have signs mounted on poles instead?

    @jonty, my thought precisely. What would they do if there was a handy cycle path for them to dump their signage in. I'm sure there must be a better way. Even if they moved it up the road a few metres there would be more space.

    I'm tempted to submit an FOI and ask if a risk assessment has been done. However I suspect that it may be a "private company document" and so not available.

    @acsimpson I contacted the council about these when they went up a few weeks ago. I assumed they had moved one which was right on the narrow bit going downhill towards the Dalmeny turn but didn't shift the overhanging ones. It is narrow enough at that point without having to negotiate these. On the other side going towards the Burnshot Road there is a particularly annoying barrier directing vehicles to Balfour Beatty's site which stretches across half the path. I moved it once but it reappeared across the path again

    I think it was billed a cost saving measure and that there is unlikely to ever be anything for it to connect to at the north west corner.

    not merely frustrating, ac. i find it sinister.

    i think they threaten to take someone's face clean off, if they are new to the route and heading downhill in overcast conditions, with the backside gun metal grey signage protruding significantly at head height against cyclepath grey background

    did you get any reply from the council, fiefster ?

    Does anyone know how the underpass will have been affected by the last 24h of rain? Also what the general slipperiness of the new bit of cycle path is like at the moment? I'm planning to go that way tomorrow on road bike.

    The new Burnshot Bridge opened today. I gave it a couple of loops via Kirkliston / Dalmeny and back round again.

    Mandatory thin cycle lane eastbound on the bridge has no option whatsoever for cyclists turning left after the bridge to head onto A90 path northbound to Dalmeny.

    What this means in effect, is you are forced by desire line to go left onto the farside pedestrian dropped kerb which is several metres behind the give way lines for the motorway slip road joining Burnshot.

    There will be incidents here.

    When you check it out yourselves, consider this... what would the dutch have done?
