Apparently there are signs up saying Bridge to be closed to all traffic from 8th May. Let's hope there is a date for them to fix it.

Out of interest. Who,is responsible for the maintenance of the flyover?

From other thread
The update they had on the bridge was that it misses being a trunk road by about 50m (I thought it was much more) and so Transport Scotland are forcing the Council to foot the entire repair bill. If it needs replaced it will run to millions which along with North Bridge could take a significant chunk of the transport budget.

"For safety reasons, Burnshot Bridge will be fenced off to pedestrians + cyclists from Mon 8 May. We apologise for any inconvenience."

Can't be very compelling safety reasons if it can wait until Monday?
Posted 7 years ago # -
How long after the Almond Ward councillors are announced should we wait before raising this with them?
Posted 7 years ago # -
How long do you need...
Posted 7 years ago # -
Well, if the barriers are going in on Monday, then they'll need to get on it sharpish
Posted 7 years ago # -
Think it might be overoptimisticing power of councillors to act/effect quickly.
Obviously need to raise issue(s) inc 'signed alternative' and 'how long will it take', but might be best to see what (if anything) happens on Monday.

Lib Dems say candidate Kevin Lang has got over 50% in Almond ward, seem confident his sister Louise Young will also be elected. #edincounthttp://pic.twitter.com/jbmL0tZBpb

would think this would have very negative effect on Craigie's - don't quite a lot of cyclists stop there for coffee? might eb worth seeing if you can get them on side. 'local business' likely to generate some action from councillors.

Are there any counts for how many cyclists use(d) the Burnshot bridge each day?
It's not beyond the wit of man to install a temporary structure alongside to continue the passage of non-motorised users.

Arellcat, far simpler than that would be the installation of a temporary path adjacent to the slip road going as far down as the existing underpass.
I have tweeted to ask if that's possible and also why there is a perceived to be such a huge danger to those on top of the bridge but not any to those underneath it.
Posted 7 years ago # -
My feeling is that the underpass is more equality than equity.
It looks pretty uninviting to me, with that bollard and no dropped kerb.

So cycling on the motorway is equality and cycling in a cycle lane is equity as long as its not rubbish

The new LibDem Cllr has said he will follow up. Let's see what the new Cllrs are like...

Craigie's are cycling supporters. They gave a hamper for a prize in Spokes's last competition.

CEC have come back saying Standingstane Rd will be the diversion (adding 1.5miles to everyone's journey)...

@hank_chief @CyclingEdin @SpokesLothian Apologies - the closure is signposted but the diversion is not yet signed, though will be imminently. Will update when installed"
Why am I not surprised?
How long have they had to plan for this?

Unnamed Road - Almond
Burnshot flyover at A90 City of Edinburgh Council
Unsafe bridge.
Flyover closed to all traffic (including cyclists and pedestrians). Slip roads remain open, no restrictions between Kirkliston and *northbound* A90.

So, it's officially been shut since November and will be for more than a year.
But it won't fall down on the road/traffic underneath(?)

So 'closed' the day after this inspection -

Repairs to Burnshot bridge on the A90 today (Sunday 27th November). Traffic will be diverted off the A90 carriageway via Burnshot off- and on-slips. Please allow plenty of extra travel time.

But previously singled to reduce loading -
And now CEC doesn't know/understand nearby option.

@talloplanic @hank_chief @CyclingEdin @SpokesLothian it would be required to pass through MOD land and this is not possible. Thanks"

Has anyone actually tried cycling using the underpass then the 'hard shoulder' / bus lane / slip road to Burnshot Road?
Presume it's not illegal, but maybe only for 'brave' road hardened cyclists? (Audaxers have been known to hammer down busy A roads like this on occasion).

"Has anyone actually tried cycling using the underpass then the 'hard shoulder' / bus lane / slip road to Burnshot Road?"
Plenty of times, all they way from Barnton too.
It's a busy road at times but wide and only 40mph.
Issue is more about walking, and cycling the other way.
Posted 7 years ago # -
14 months of an extra 1.5 miles. Not just 1.5 miles, but 1.5miles of well below substandard road surface.
Tell me more about CEC's commitment to cycling...

"Issue is more about walking, and cycling the other way."
Aye, bit of a pain that. Presumably not *that* many pedestrians using Burnshot Road anyway?
Cycling the other way (eastwards?) is there not a railway path from Dalmeny south to somewhere near the A8? Can't recall if it's surfaced properly, or the condition. There's also a quiet road somewhere west of the airport too that links to the A8 I think? (Just checked) Yep. Standingstane Road, Burnshot Road west, B800 from Kirkliston, then Lochend Road to link up with A8 path east of that mahoosive roundabout and silly pedestrian bridge thing. Of course that doesn't really help if you're trying to get to, say Leith or north Edinburgh, and the A8 path has its own issues, but maybe an alternative for some?
