Walking and cycling improvements on Dean Park Crescent, Queensferry Road, Oxford Terrace and Learmonth Terrace

We want to hear your views on our proposals for the junction of Dean Park Crescent and Queensferry Road, with associated improvements on Oxford Terrace and Learmonth Terrace. This project would transform the junction, with improved pedestrian crossings, cycle lanes and simplified vehicle movements. There are opportunities to improve traffic safety at this location and your views are important to ensure that the proposals meet the needs of users. Please complete the online survey below to tell us your preference for motor vehicle access between Dean Park Crescent and Oxford Terrace, a key component of the project.*

About time. However "during peak times, motor vehicles may have to wait for short periods behind cyclists using the
cycle lanes, before passing them." Not sure how this would be an issue with segregated cycle lanes, which is what I understand are proposed.

segregated cycle lanes proposed - but "visualisation of the proposals" just shows the same tired old red asphalt strip without any segregation ?

    maybe i'm missing something

It's a pretty shoddy visualisation, TBH. Whilst I'm all for pedestrians asserting their right to walk on the road, the girl on the right who seems to be walking down the middle of the north bound carriageway listening to tunes and checking her phone seems to be taking it a little too far.

Best wait for the design drawings.

Unfortunately I think the design drawings will be done after the consultation is completed, which defeats the point slightly.

Is it too optimistic to hope that this might be the first section of a proper segregated route all the way to Craigleith, and ideally beyond? There isn't exactly a shortage of space on that chunk of Queensferry Road.

    Closes today

Here are the comments I submitted:

More needs to be done to reduce rat-running traffic along Learmonth Tce/Comely Bank Ave. For example, by restricting turns into/out of Queensferry Rd to left (or right) turn only.

The width of the carriageway on Learmonth Tce and on Queensferry Rd at the junction should be at its absolute minimum (commensurate with allowing buses through), to allow pedestrians to cross the road more easily. Bend radii should also be minimised, to allow pedestrians to have good sightlines from the shortest possible crossing points.

Segregated cycle lanes should be included on Queensferry Rd. Parking should be prevented on the segregated lanes and adequate facilities should be provided at the junction to allow cyclists to safely and conveniently turn into and out of Learmonth Tce, as well as allowing pedestrians to cross safely.

    Drat.

Forgot to mention the segregated lanes should be a long as possible, otherwise cyclists will not enter them if they are only 100m long.
