Listening to Radio Scotland half hour programme 'Brainwaves'.
    Topic 'Urban Mining'.

    The sound clip is interesting.
Sweeping up Platinum, Palladium and Rodium versus mining it in South Africa or Canada.

I remember being shown round the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, by an elderly gentleman who had worked in a similar factory. He said that he had quite a lot of gold dust in his lungs and that he joked that his family should "mine" him for it after his death...

I used to have a pair of jeans that had platinum, palladium, iridium and ruthenium on them.

    edd1e_h - yes catalytic converters.

The programme also looked at disposed electric goods. Many people never clean filters on their vacuum cleaners and just chuck and buy a new one (!)
