    Gavin Barrie, convener of City of Edinburgh Council's economic committee, said:

    "Anything that encourages people, whether young or old, to lead an active lifestyle and enjoy all the benefits that come with it is likely to garner support across the city."

    Oh, hang on.
    As you were.

    Will the Cooncil buy and subsidise it when it gets into trouble? Deja vu...

    Anyone suggesting this is a giant mechanical albatross just doesn't get the benefits of indoor out of town surfing. This is the twenty-first century, not the thirteenth century.

    And people say that money shouldn't be spent on cycling because it's a "minority interest".

    I would love to see their business plan and forecasts.

    The council keep threatening to close local facilities so they can pay for that retched climbing centre, how long before this becomes another waste of resources.

    Don't get me wrong I can see the benefit of an indoor climbing wall, I also get the benefit of the location of the current wall, I understand it was a good wall (before the development). What I don't understand is who thought it would be a good idea to build an indoor wall there that utilises none of the natural wall.

    Well this is just a planning decision so far not support of a failed business. Edinburgh leisure does possibly subsidies more middle class activity from the Edinburgh International Climbing, to the Craiglockhart Leisure Centre & Tennis Centre to the the common wealth pool. When I used to go to craiglockhart lots of expensive cars outside and get claimants from the Scottish government running 40k Audis that were getting discounts at Edinburgh when I was expected to pay full price when unemployed. Edinburgh leisure subsidies the middle class hobbies and government employees leisure its one subsidy to justify another.

    Edinburgh leisure is about pleasure in middle class leisure.

    However I agree with the council person on the surfing lake decision and the climbing centre although possibly bias , not so sure about tennis

    The only other one in existence that I can find is in central Texas. I'm not convinced they've thought every aspect of this project all the way through.

    Surf Passes range from $60 to $90 for a session just under an hour in the lagoon. Coaching sessions and clinics range from $65 to $190 with 30-minutes dry land training and a session just under an hour in the lagoon.

    Oh, hang on, maybe they have thought this through;

    And as usually happens with a surf beach, a Wavegarden adds value to the land where it is installed.

    Isn't there an artificial surf reef in Wales?

    The website isn't working on my phone though:

    Maybe the surf quarriers could build a bridge over the canal taking you up up to the quarry and connecting to the road into the climbing centre, would help with Bile access and only cost millions.

    @gembo

    I find that the Daily Mail gives the best access to bile. Wasn't the Surf Quarriers the name of the supergroup formed by the fusion of the Beachboys and the Beatles?
