Stock already arriving at the new shop. It will be a bit smaller than the Evans round the corner.

There was a staff member handing out free water bottles to cyclists as they passed this morning.

Edit: oopened the water bottle and there's also a wee saddle rain cover included, which is nice.

I went past last night. Rather amusing it's placed on the Magical Mystery Tour from the Canal to the West End.

Not sure quite understand the difference, between Halfords and cycle republic is. Although Halfords seems better value than Evans and getting bike fixed in Halfords is easy good for repairs, with evans told to book my free service on line when tried to book it in shop, evans seems hopeless for service, but they offer the best range plenty of steal touring bikes gravel mudguard, bikes with racks.

If want bike fixed to highest standard then local bike shop but not so easy to get too, if want to buy touring bike evans best range, if want a screw bike station, if bike accessories decathlon. If want tyres or anything else and want to wait then buy on line.

I suppose if live in the centre of Edinburgh a lack of Halfords but as bicycle works that offer 7 days repairs and open late then the service gap is already taken care off.

Edinburgh cycle coop offer a good range of utility bikes. I suppose Halfords do the good value road bikes the boredman etc.

Halfords is well known brand if cycle republic offer the same bikes and prices don’t really get the use of another brand.

Just encountered Cycle Republic staff applying seat covers and hanging adverts with offers to all the bikes parked at Haymarket Station!

If I know how to upload photo of advert I would, but I can't!

    It says:

    * FREE bike maintenance check (notmally £14.99) from 22 March to 21 April
    * 20% off all accessories, parts and clothing (except GoPro, cycling GPS, & fitness wearables) - ditto same dates.

Just peered through window too. Looks likes all bikes 10% off.

The key thing they seem to have overlooked is that there are no bike racks outside (but maybe a few inside), but if lots of people arrive via steed for tomorrow's opening then they find convenient racks a scarcity. (There are a lot in and around the Port Hamilton site though which are poorly used).

Of the other people I saw with prizes, I only saw:

    - water bottle
    - water bottle signed by Bradley Wiggins (unusable if a genuine signature)
    - fingerless gloves

Anyone see or get a better/different prize?

(Allegedly there were bike frames, h****ts, clothing (maybe the gloves counted as 'clothing'), event tickets & accessories)

I saw a few people collecting helmets. Cycle Republic and Kask ones.

Also noted the all male staff team, but maybe they couldn't find any suitable women in the whole of Edinburgh to join their team?! Seems a bit of an oversight.

Chris Boardman was there to open the shop but they were giving away water bottles signed by Bradley Wiggins? :\

Definitely an oversight on the bike parking (as mentioned previously). Nearest racks were across the road and down by the EICC.

I made use of a nearby tree.

Maybe the land is privately owned, so they need to negotiate with the landlord - still, you'd think they could've got that sorted.

Good car parking today. Reckon that option won't be allowed for customers!

Maybe one for the "Severe Weather" thread, but their new A-board was being blown down the e middle of Morrison Street this morning. I shouted in to one of the staff and he ran out to fetch it.

They must open early - this was around 8.15.

Cycle Republic is running a free introductory bike maintenance workshop for women next week 4th of May 18:30-19:30.
"This is an ideal session for women who are new to cycling and want to learn the basics of taking care of their bikes.
The workshops will be practical and interactive and a great opportunity to meet other women in your area who are also interested in cycling."

Not sure how good/bad, what level it is but I will try to go and suss it out because I could definitely do with improving my bike maintenance skills.
