I cycled back from the bypass last night and joined Slateford road just after the Corn Exchange. My word that was unpleasant. The temporary lights at Shandon have caused a pretty chaotic situation. It was some of the trickiest and most dangerous filtering I've had to do - the sort where every other car is jinking unpredictably left or right to try and see better or beat the queue. It felt like Karma for my earlier conversation with IWRATS where I attempted to explain my choice not to view the city cycling as an urban mountain-biking exercise.

@algo - bad timing, was queued in to town from Balerno to Slateford. I alerted Mrs Garto who was off to sainsburys for tortilla and french food (they are doing food and language at school today) and curries for the tea. By spotting her in the traffic and suggesting she turn round. I was as you may know, stuck in high gear.
But the gyle does not sell pre-made tortilla except one bite size M&S for 3 quid. Mrs Garto has 60 mouths to feed. So she started from scratch and made a whopper. I had to help with the weight of it when turning it out of the pan. Lucky kids.

@gembo - thanks for this - it is most enlightening. I knew the tailbacks would be something to do with foreigners and their crazy heavy food. I have in the past wimped out of the turning over and done the top side under a grill, but that was mainly due to really terrible pans to which everything got stuck.

@algo, yes I resort to the grill but Mrs Garto has more patience if she absolutely has to cook and is very good. However, she will do almost anything to avoid cooking.
As Meatloaf sang - I would do anything for love but I won't do that (by which he meant err, cooking?)

Oh yes, the traffic was MENTAL yesterday. I did my long commute and first hit it somewhere in Juniper Green. I'm not one for aggressive filtering but even at my cautious rate of progress I passed a lot of cars. Quick whizz down Lanark Road and then more queuing cars all the way home.
As Algo says, on the Slateford Road you had to be a bit cautious for cars moving left - but I got on OK.

This was caused by temporary lights at Shandon ?! Does anyone know if they will be there today again ? If so I will try and avoid the area altogether.

There was also an accident on the bypass. East bound traffic was queued almost back to Gogar at 17:30, so that will have had an impact for sure.

Traffic banked right up along Dalry Road last night after 9pm!

The temp lights were still there this morning but were turned off, I believe.

Please note all of the a70 that was blocked Balerno to beyond slateford is 30mph in case any trump fake facts people start on this.

they should build a wall around the cycle lane in slateford and get Edinburgh council to pay

I had the misfortune to be driving yesterday, was caught up in the Slateford nonsense. Shandon temp lights off and roadworks complete when I rode down this morning.
Thursdays traffic compounded by the accident on bypass, Shandon temp lights, temp lights on Dalry Road, temp lights at Greenhill.
So so so so glad I ride in 90% of the time, no wonder drivers have steam coming out their ears, it was horrible.
