  2. Fate always conspires against me - got a work leaving do. :( I'll be in the rough area with a bike so if I see it heading off I might break away for half an hour or so...

    What's wrong with it that it's dark? We all cycling in the evenings:) So bring as many lights as possible and come along!

    I cycle in the evenings because I have to not because I want to, nor do I want to add into the mix angry drivers frustrated at being forced to speeds of 4 mph aggresively over taking in the dark.
    Thanks, but no

    I cycle in the dark too and sometimes because I want to. However I'm with Spytfyre - I don't think it's safe to go so deliberately slow that it will aggravate drivers, particularly when it's dark. It doesn't matter where the right or wrong lies, I just don't intentionally put myself in danger if I can avoid it and trust it to the actions of others to avoid me. It doesn't matter how well lit up you are, if someone hasn't dipped their eleventy-billion lumen headlights and they are shining in your face then drivers and cyclists alike are effectively blind.

    I'd happily cycle a critical mass around town in the dark if it were to do something over 15 and approaching 20 mph.

    Likewise. I happily cycle in the evenings for commuting, shopping, leisure and exercise but when it's dark I try to be at my most vehicular, for safety's sake as well as annoyance-minimisation.

    I don't understand why you are so unwilling to cycle in the evening? As you all do it anyway?

    @ememka they are obviosly willing to cycle in the evening, just not at unicycle speeds (for a 20" at least not a Coker). Hey, lets all walk our bicycles to the bridge at the castle espy and then mount up on mass and cruise down to the shore in leith taking a whole lane about 15 mile an hour or so. Pint and punt off home. call it the GravityFedSocial or something equally ridicularse. Im up for riding and not racing or training but being visible as riders together, but not as hooligans. This place is too stiff, you have to work around things, its not a lawless cycle city and I like to cycle at a good pace, otherwise i would walk.

    @ememka - I didn't say I was unwilling, I said I didn't do it if I didn't have to. Unwilling suggests I wouldn't if I had to.
    Oh and I currently have more lights than the ISS

    @ememka - likewise I never said I was unwilling to ride at night. I said I was unwillingly to ride in a group at night going deliberately slow with the objective of slowing up traffic. I also amn't up for riding in a mixed ability group in such circumstances. No thanks. I said I'd happily ride at night at a faster pace and with a different attitude to sharing the road with other users.
