Dear fellow members of the cycling fascist brigade,

After a ridiculously epic five years of talking, planning, arguing, paperwork, endless cleaning up of the site, arguing, more paperwork, groundworks... more paperwork, etc etc etc, the bike park officially opens tomorrow!

All CCErs are cordially invited to take a break from the even longer, more gruelling and ultimately nobler battle for safe streets, decent infra, more cycle funding etc etc, and to come along and enjoy a genuine good news story, and experience the deeply gratifying sight of seeing LOTS of people having fun on bikes!

    Hope to see you tomorrow.
    Angus

    Cheers
    Angus

I think we can all say congratulations on getting Skelf up and running against all the odds!

Indeed, I'm very much looking forward to going along this afternoon, and in the future.

    It looks brilliant.

Official opening also happened after the official opening time. I resisted asking the minister if she fancied a shot on the electric bike

It is really good. The pump track was going like a fair and the longer one had some great spills and thrills. Maintaining it through hard use might be ongoing issue? Which is a good thing

    Now with added red lines.

The idea is to discourage 'random routes' when the track is particularly busy.

Surprisingly few people use the MTB track -

Good number using it this morning. Biketrax guys were there with their Saracen bikes and they let me try out one of their very expensive models. Button on left hand side of handlebars automatically puts seat up and down. Amazing! Made the MTB track so easy to navigate even for a novice like me.

"Surprisingly few people use the MTB track"

I had a try. It felt very steep. The sharp gravel and rocky sides also made potential falls feel unnattractive. i was on my cross bike. maybe on a MTB I would have felt more confident.

There are plenty of people with 'right' bikes and experience, but not being used nearly as much as the pump track.

That is attracting all sorts from 2yos on balance bikes onwards, inc. scooters, skateboards and road bikes.

Incidentally the 'most experienced' seem to be the ones having the most painful falls!
