Interesting article from Auntie Beeb's news magazine:

I don't think it's foolish to do anything as long as you're willing and able to take the consequences of your actions yourself.

Every person and community was different, but certain traits linked them all: kindness, curiosity and tolerance.

Big up for the human race. If you ask people for help they rarely say no in my experience.

Not really any more foolish for a woman than a man or non binary person to take that trip.?

Don't tell the authorities you are a journalist was one non-gender specific piece of advice.

    Perhaps added risks? For example

She does not shy away from the multiple times she was molested.

However anyone cycling anywhere has to weigh up risk. Clearly cycling in a war zone or a desert carries more risk than usual.

I liked the look of her bike.

With any travel, whatever the mode of road-based transport, whatever the country, the biggest risk is always a road traffic collision.

Even in war torn areas, you are still more likely to die in an RTC than anything else.

I think Dervla Murphy said in an interview that she wouldn't cycle in the UK now as it is too dangerous. She cycled from Ireland to Hindustan if I remember her book correctly. I think she took a revolver with her.
