Maybe I'm being over sensitive, but this is kinda annoying me a bit - not like there's that much dedicated cycle path in Edinburgh, compared to the 1,000s of km of dedicated pavements.

"Event taking place with runners using cycle path, if possible avoid the path... etc".

    OR

"Please don't use the pavement because we are holding a cycling event on it" - wouldn't work in reverse in any circumstance.

Do you know where on the NEPN?

Depending on where they pick, it shouldn't be hard to avoid it.

Most of it from Ocean Terminal to Haymarket + Victoria Park

Since it's a shared use path in the first place it's not the same as cyclists using footpaths. More along the lines of the road closures / limitations that are imposed on car drivers during pedal for scotland, really.
And since putting it on roads would mean a lot more marshalling costs, disruption to all road users etc, I'm inclined to think that the NEPN is a good fit.

It might even show some runners that it exists! I didn't know about it until I started cycling and got a Spokes map. And a lady who was out on a bike ride with our group was astonished to learn that the flashes of hi viz she'd been seeing from her kitchen window were in fact cyclists on the NEPN, which she had never realised existed.

I'd assumed it would be a kilo, rather than 13k.

    Yeah, it's out of order.

The kilomathon has been using the NEPN for several years. I remember trying to go against the flow of runners while out for an early ride on my TT bike. That was not fun! It just required patience and consideration. The most annoying person was someone with headphones in who didn't seem to be aware of any other path users at all. A lot of races ban you from running with headphones, this is why.

I don't have a problem with them using the paths. After all, if I tried to go against the flow of cyclists during Pedal for Scotland and then complained about it, you'd all laugh.

Hadn't read details and managed to encounter this. Grrr.

We kept as left as possible and people still kept running into us. Finally out 6yo in front and the gave him slightly more room. He only came off once....

I should edit to say - we were creeping along, and most of them were keeping left in opposite direction. Just a few playing chicken.
